Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, is preparing to expand its MPV lineup with two all-new models built around very different powertrain philosophies: a fully electric MPV and a hybrid-powered MPV. Together, these vehicles signal Maruti’s push to bring cleaner, more efficient family mobility to a market that has traditionally leaned on petrol and CNG. Here’s a detailed look at both models and when you can expect them to arrive.
Maruti YMC – The Electric MPV
The first of the two upcoming models is internally codenamed YMC, and it will be Maruti’s second all-electric product after the e Vitara SUV. The YMC is being developed on the same 27P skateboard-style EV architecture (also referred to as the eHEARTECT platform) that underpins the e Vitara, which means it will share a lot of its underlying engineering with that SUV.
On the battery front, the YMC is expected to be offered with the same 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options as the e Vitara, paired with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The larger 61kWh pack could deliver a claimed range of around 500 km on a single charge, making it a genuinely usable option for families who need both city commuting range and highway capability.
Spy shots of test mules suggest a boxy, upright silhouette with an e-Vitara-inspired front bumper, flush door handles, and aerodynamic alloy wheels, while the rear gets vertically stacked taillamps reminiscent of the Ertiga. Expect a spacious three-row cabin, along with modern features like a large touchscreen and driver-assistance tech.
The YMC is expected to debut in late 2026, with a full commercial launch likely in early 2027. Once launched, it will compete with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, BYD eMax 7, and the VinFast MPV in a segment that’s just beginning to take shape in India.
Maruti YVF – The Hybrid MPV
The second model, codenamed YVF, takes a very different route. Rather than going fully electric, this MPV will be based on the Suzuki Solio and is expected to use Maruti’s in-house Series Hybrid (HEV) technology, which pairs a 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine with an electric motor that primarily works as a generator.
This setup is designed to prioritise fuel efficiency over outright electric range, and Maruti’s Series HEV system is expected to deliver figures in the 35-40 kmpl range across the models it powers. The YVF is expected to come with premium touches like powered sliding doors, positioning it as an affordable yet feature-rich alternative to rivals like the Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite.
Unlike the YMC, the YVF hybrid MPV has a longer runway to production, with a likely launch around 2029. This gives Maruti time to fine-tune its hybrid architecture, especially since the brand’s other hybrid launches, such as the Fronx Hybrid, have already faced delays.
What This Means for Indian Buyers
Together, the YMC and YVF reflect Maruti’s dual-track approach to future mobility: an EV for buyers ready to make the switch to electric, and a hybrid for those who want better efficiency without range anxiety or charging dependence. Both models will strengthen Maruti’s presence in the family car segment, an area where the brand already has a strong footing with the Ertiga and XL6.
As testing progresses and more details emerge, expect sharper clarity on pricing, exact specifications, and confirmed launch windows. For now, the YMC electric MPV is the nearer-term product to watch, while the YVF hybrid remains a longer-term bet on Maruti’s roadmap.
