Maruti Suzuki is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with a new three-row model, internally known by the codename YMC. The upcoming electric MPV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads and is expected to become Maruti Suzuki’s first three-row electric vehicle. While the company has not officially confirmed the debut venue or date, the YMC is expected to make its public appearance around the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
The Maruti YMC is expected to target buyers seeking a spacious electric family car that accommodates up to seven occupants. Recent test mules suggest that the model will have a relatively upright and boxy design, giving it a practical MPV profile while retaining some SUV-inspired styling elements. The front-end design appears to feature large headlamps, while the rear gets vertically positioned tail-lamps connected by a visual band.
Under the skin, the YMC is expected to share its electric architecture with the Maruti e Vitara. Reports indicate that it could use the same skateboard platform and potentially borrow the 49kWh and 61kWh battery options. However, because the YMC will be larger and designed to accommodate three rows, its range could be lower than the e-Vitara’s claimed maximum of 543km. The electric motor and other major powertrain components are also expected to be shared.
The new electric MPV could play an important role in Maruti Suzuki’s broader EV strategy. The company has already entered the electric SUV market with the e-Vitara, and the YMC would allow it to address a different segment where practical three-row electric vehicles remain limited.
The YMC is expected to be positioned alongside Maruti Suzuki’s existing MPV lineup, including the Ertiga, XL6, and Invicto, but its electric powertrain will give it a distinct position in the range. Earlier reports also suggested that the model could eventually be sold under a Toyota badge, continuing the company’s existing product-sharing strategy.
The production version is currently expected to arrive around the end of 2026 or during 2027, with commercial sales likely to follow after its debut. Some industry reports estimate that Maruti Suzuki could target annual production volumes of more than 50,000 units, including exports.
If Maruti Suzuki chooses the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo for the YMC’s debut, the event could provide the company with a major platform to showcase its next-generation electric family MPV. More details about its final design, battery specifications, range, features, and pricing are expected to emerge closer to the official unveiling.
