BMW India has officially opened bookings for the upcoming X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in the country. The new luxury SUV is scheduled to make its India debut on August 21, 2026, and is expected to bring more cabin space and improved rear-seat comfort to the popular X1 range.
The X1 LWB is being introduced with a clear focus on customers who want the premium experience of a BMW along with additional space for rear passengers. This is particularly important in the Indian luxury car market, where rear-seat comfort and legroom are becoming increasingly important for buyers.
BMW X1 LWB Gets a Longer Body
The biggest change over the standard X1 is the extended wheelbase. The India-spec X1 LWB gets an additional 110mm of wheelbase, while its overall length is increased by around 116mm. This extra length has primarily been used to create more room inside the cabin, especially for passengers sitting in the second row.
The longer proportions are also expected to give the SUV a more substantial road presence. BMW is likely to retain the familiar design language of the X1 while making subtle changes to suit the extended body.
Features and Cabin Comfort
BMW has not revealed the complete equipment list for the new model yet, but the X1 LWB is expected to offer a premium cabin with modern technology and comfort-focused features.
The existing X1 already comes with features such as a curved digital display, connected-car technology, digital key functionality, parking assistance, and premium audio options. The long-wheelbase version is expected to build on this package with greater emphasis on rear-seat comfort.
BMW has also been expanding its locally manufactured portfolio in India. The company already produces several models at its Chennai plant, helping it remain competitive in the growing luxury SUV segment.
BMW X1 LWB Price and Powertrain Details
BMW has not announced the price of the new X1 LWB yet. The official pricing is expected to be revealed at the time of its India launch on August 21.
The powertrain details for the new version are also awaited. BMW’s existing X1 lineup in India is available with petrol and diesel options, while the company also sells the electric X1-based iX1 Long Wheelbase separately.
With bookings now open, interested buyers can reserve the upcoming SUV through BMW India’s authorised dealer network. The launch will provide more clarity on its exact variants, specifications, features, and pricing.
