Skoda Auto is preparing to bring the Superb back to India with a diesel engine, giving premium sedan buyers another option in a market that has increasingly shifted towards petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains. The new-generation Skoda Superb is expected to arrive in India in the first half of 2027, according to the latest reports.
The upcoming Superb will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU), placing it above the Kodiaq in Skoda’s Indian portfolio. The return of the sedan is also significant because it will mark the comeback of a diesel-powered Skoda after the Volkswagen Group discontinued diesel engines in India several years ago.
2.0-litre TDI Diesel Engine Expected
The biggest highlight of the new Skoda Superb will be its diesel powertrain. The India-spec model is expected to use Volkswagen Group’s 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, which develops around 193hp and 400Nm of peak torque in global markets. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox internationally, although Skoda is yet to confirm the exact India-spec transmission.
The strong torque output should suit the Superb’s character, particularly for highway driving and long-distance touring. A petrol engine could also be considered for India, but the diesel version is currently the key focus of the upcoming launch.
New-Generation Superb Gets Premium Cabin
The fourth-generation Superb features a major design and technology upgrade compared with the previous model. It gets a sharper exterior design, a redesigned dashboard and a more premium cabin aimed at competing with other executive sedans.
The interior is expected to feature a large 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a range of premium equipment. Depending on the India-spec variant, buyers could also get features such as a premium audio system, ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charging, panoramic sunroof and advanced driver assistance systems.
Expected Price and Launch
Since the Superb will arrive as a CBU, its pricing is expected to be significantly higher than Skoda’s locally manufactured models. Current estimates suggest an ex-showroom price in the region of Rs 55 lakh to Rs 60 lakh, although the final price will be announced closer to the launch.
The Skoda Superb diesel is expected to launch in India during the first half of 2027. With its spacious cabin, premium positioning and powerful diesel engine, the sedan could appeal to buyers looking for a long-distance luxury car with a traditional internal-combustion powertrain.
Skoda’s decision to revive the diesel Superb also indicates that the company sees continued demand for diesel-powered premium vehicles in India, even as the broader industry moves towards electrification.
