JSW MG Motor India is preparing to introduce the new Hector Hawk in the Indian market, and the company appears to have changed the order of its planned powertrain launches. The Hector Hawk EV is now expected to arrive before the plug-in hybrid version, giving MG another strong entry in India’s growing electric SUV segment. Recent reports indicate that the new electric SUV is scheduled to make its India debut on August 26, 2026.
The Hector Hawk is not simply an electrified version of the existing Hector. It is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560, with India-specific changes to its design, equipment and powertrain. Earlier reports had indicated that MG was developing both EV and PHEV versions of the SUV, which are expected to carry the Hector Hawk nameplate.
EV Version Expected To Arrive First
The decision to launch the EV before the PHEV could be an important move for MG as it expands its new-energy vehicle portfolio. The company already has experience in the electric SUV space, and the Hector Hawk EV could help it target buyers looking for a larger, three-row electric SUV.
The upcoming model is expected to offer a spacious cabin with a modern dashboard layout and a strong focus on connected technology. Recent teasers have also revealed a more contemporary exterior design compared with the current Hector, giving the new SUV a distinct identity.
PHEV Version To Follow
While the EV is expected to make its debut first, the Hector Hawk PHEV is likely to follow later. The plug-in hybrid version could appeal to customers who want electric driving for shorter trips but still prefer the flexibility of a petrol engine for longer journeys.
The PHEV model is also expected to be offered with three-row seating, making it relevant for family buyers who are not yet ready to switch completely to an EV. MG has already opened pre-bookings for the PHEV version ahead of the upcoming launch, although detailed specifications and pricing are yet to be officially announced.
What To Expect From The Hector Hawk EV
The Hector Hawk EV is expected to bring a premium cabin, advanced connected features and a spacious three-row layout. Earlier reports have suggested an electric range of around 500 km or more, although MG is yet to confirm the final battery specifications and certified range.
With the August 26 debut approaching, more details about the battery, range, features and pricing are expected to be revealed soon. If MG manages to position the Hector Hawk EV competitively, it could become an important model in the brand’s next phase of electric SUV expansion in India.
The launch will also provide a clearer picture of MG’s strategy for combining pure-electric and plug-in hybrid technology under the same new SUV nameplate.
