Hyundai Sub-4m Electric SUV Confirmed for India

Hyundai Motor India has confirmed a new sub-4-metre electric SUV for the Indian market, marking an important step in the company’s plan to expand into the mass-market EV segment. The upcoming model has already been spotted testing in India, and Hyundai is expected to position it below the Creta Electric in its SUV portfolio.

The new electric SUV is likely to be one of Hyundai’s most important EV launches for the Indian market. While the company has not revealed its official name or complete specifications yet, it has confirmed that the model will be designed for India and heavily localised. The launch is currently expected sometime in 2027.

Hyundai’s New Compact EV Takes Shape

Test vehicles of the upcoming Hyundai electric SUV have already been seen on Indian roads. The spy images suggest a boxy and upright design, giving the model a strong SUV appearance despite its compact dimensions.

The new EV will sit below the Creta Electric and is expected to compete with models such as the Tata Punch EV and other upcoming compact electric SUVs. Hyundai’s focus on localisation should also help the company keep production costs under control and offer competitive pricing.

Earlier reports had suggested that the new model could be related to Hyundai’s global Inster EV. However, the India-spec version is expected to receive significant changes in design, equipment and mechanical specifications to suit local requirements.

Expected Battery and Performance

Hyundai has not officially announced the battery specifications yet, but reports indicate that the new electric SUV could receive two battery pack options. The latest reports suggest battery capacities of around 42kWh and 51kWh could be offered.

The more powerful version is expected to produce up to 168bhp and 255Nm, although these figures remain unconfirmed. A claimed driving range of up to around 526km has also been reported for the higher-spec version.

If these specifications make it to the production model, the Hyundai EV could offer a strong combination of performance and range for buyers looking for a compact electric SUV.

Premium Features and ADAS

Despite its compact size, Hyundai is expected to give the new EV a fairly premium cabin. Features could include dual 12.3-inch screens, a fully LED lighting setup, a closed-off front grille and a 360-degree camera.

One of the biggest highlights will be Level 2 ADAS, which has been confirmed for the upcoming model. Hyundai could potentially offer the advanced driver-assistance system across more variants, depending on the final positioning and pricing.

The SUV is also expected to feature vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle charging capabilities, adding more practicality for EV owners.

Expected Price and Competition

Hyundai has not announced the price yet. However, the company’s heavy localisation strategy should play an important role in determining the final cost. The new SUV is expected to target the growing premium compact EV space, with the top variants potentially crossing the Rs 15 lakh mark.

With its compact dimensions, advanced technology, expected long-range battery option and Hyundai’s established service network, the upcoming EV could become an important rival to existing and future electric SUVs in India.

More details about the Hyundai sub-4-metre electric SUV are expected to emerge closer to its launch. For now, the model represents Hyundai’s clear move towards making electric SUVs more accessible to Indian buyers.
