Kia is preparing to expand its premium MPV lineup in India with the upcoming Carnival Hybrid. The new hybrid version is scheduled to launch in India on September 4, 2026, and will be positioned alongside the existing diesel-powered Carnival. The move will give buyers a more fuel-efficient alternative without moving away from the MPV’s premium and spacious character.
Kia Carnival Hybrid Powertrain
The biggest change will be under the bonnet. The Carnival Hybrid is expected to use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor in a strong hybrid setup. Reports suggest the India-spec model could produce around 242 hp and 367 Nm of combined torque, with a 54kW electric motor providing additional assistance. A six-speed automatic gearbox is expected to handle transmission duties.
However, Kia has not yet confirmed every India-specific specification, so the final output and equipment list should be confirmed at the official launch. Globally, the Carnival Hybrid is also offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid system, although power figures can vary depending on the market.
Premium Three-Row Cabin
The Carnival is already known for its spacious cabin and premium second-row seating, and the hybrid version is expected to retain much of this character. The current India-spec Carnival offers a 2+2+3 seating layout, powered and ventilated second-row captain seats, a dual panoramic-style display setup, dual sunroof, head-up display and three-zone climate control.
Safety and driver-assistance technology are also expected to remain a major focus. The existing Carnival comes with features such as multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS functions.
Hybrid Efficiency Could Be a Major Advantage
The hybrid powertrain could make the Carnival more attractive to buyers who regularly cover long distances. While the current diesel version delivers strong torque and highway performance, a petrol-hybrid setup should offer smoother low-speed operation and the ability to use electric assistance more frequently in city traffic.
The hybrid will also strengthen Kia’s electrified portfolio in India as the company prepares to introduce more hybrid models. The Carnival Hybrid is expected to be followed by other electrified products as Kia expands its technology offering in the country.
Expected Positioning
With its large dimensions, three-row layout and premium equipment, the Kia Carnival Hybrid will continue to target buyers looking for a luxury-focused family MPV rather than a conventional SUV. Pricing is expected to sit above the existing diesel Carnival, although Kia is yet to announce the official figure.
With the launch scheduled for September 4, more details about the India-spec powertrain, features, variants and pricing are expected to be revealed shortly.
