New BMW M350 Revealed With 443hp and Drift Mode

BMW has revealed key details of the next-generation 3 Series with internal combustion engines, with the new M350 xDrive positioned as the range-topping performance version before the arrival of a future M3. The new model will combine a six-cylinder petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology and a new Drift Moment function designed to make the sedan more engaging for performance-focused drivers.

BMW M350 Gets a 443hp Six-Cylinder Engine

The new BMW M350 xDrive will be powered by a 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. BMW says the powertrain develops 443hp and 580Nm of torque, making the M350 considerably more powerful than the outgoing M340i.

Power will be sent through an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The sedan is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

The M350 will also be the only six-cylinder version of the new-generation combustion-powered 3 Series, with other petrol variants expected to use four-cylinder engines. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.

Drift Moment Brings Rear-Wheel-Drive Fun

One of the biggest highlights of the new M350 xDrive is BMW’s Drift Moment feature. When activated, the system can send the engine’s drive completely to the rear wheels, effectively giving the all-wheel-drive sedan a rear-driven character for controlled sideways driving.

BMW says the feature will be introduced during 2027 through a Remote Software Upgrade. Interestingly, cars already delivered to customers will also be eligible for the software activation, meaning the feature does not necessarily have to be available from the first day of ownership.

Performance-Focused Chassis Setup

The M350 xDrive is not relying only on engine power. BMW has equipped it with adaptive M suspension, an M Sport differential and variable sport steering. The company has also worked on increasing torsional and vertical stiffness as part of the new 3 Series chassis development.

The new generation is based on BMW’s latest Neue Klasse development approach, bringing a more advanced electronic architecture and integrated driving-dynamics management. BMW says the system coordinates various functions to improve agility, stability and ride comfort.

The new BMW M350 xDrive is expected to become an important bridge between the regular 3 Series and the full M3. With 443hp, a six-cylinder engine, mild-hybrid assistance and a dedicated Drift Moment function, it could offer a more versatile performance package while retaining the everyday usability expected from a 3 Series.
