Mahindra has introduced the updated Thar OG in India with a revised variant structure, refreshed styling, and several mechanical upgrades. The three-door lifestyle SUV is now offered in three trims: AXT, LXT and ZXT. Prices start at Rs. 10.32 lakh and go up to Rs. 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom, under the introductory pricing announced by Mahindra.
The new Thar OG continues with three engine options, but the larger petrol and diesel units now produce more power. The 1.5-litre diesel makes 119hp and 300Nm and is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol produces 162hp and 330Nm, while the 2.2-litre diesel develops 152hp and 330Nm. Both larger engines are available with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, along with RWD and 4WD configurations depending on the variant.
Mahindra Thar OG AXT
The AXT is the entry-level variant and is offered in only one configuration: the 1.5-litre diesel with a six-speed manual gearbox and RWD. It costs Rs. 10.32 lakh, ex-showroom. The base trim gets 16-inch steel wheels, halogen headlamps, LED tail lamps, tubular side steps and remote keyless entry. Its relatively simple equipment list also makes it suitable for buyers who plan to personalise the SUV themselves.
Mahindra Thar OG LXT
The LXT sits in the middle of the range and brings a much wider choice of powertrains. It can be equipped with the 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol or 2.2-litre diesel engine. Depending on the powertrain, buyers can choose between RWD and 4WD, as well as manual and automatic transmissions.
The LXT also adds 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, silver bumper accents and a more comprehensive equipment package over the AXT.
Mahindra Thar OG ZXT
The new ZXT is the top-spec trim and is available with all three engines. It adds 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering function and additional safety equipment. The ZXT also gets features such as six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, front parking sensors and TPMS.
Overall, the Thar OG’s three-trim strategy gives buyers a clear spread from the basic AXT to the feature-rich ZXT, while the LXT provides access to the wider engine, transmission and drivetrain combinations. The updated SUV also gains a revised platform, suspension and electric power steering, making the 2026 update more substantial than a cosmetic facelift.
