Mahindra is preparing another update for its popular three-door Thar, and the upcoming 2026 Mahindra Thar facelift has once again been spotted testing on Indian roads. The latest test mule reveals a noticeably revised front fascia, along with a new grille design and fresh alloy wheels. The SUV is expected to receive several styling and equipment upgrades while retaining its familiar rugged character.
New Front Fascia Revealed
The biggest change seen on the latest test vehicle is at the front. Earlier spy shots had suggested that the facelifted Thar could receive a grille inspired by the larger Thar Roxx. However, the latest prototype appears to feature a different five-slot grille with a more rectangular design.
A small horizontal trim element can also be seen on the right side of the grille. This could potentially be used to accommodate the Thar badge. The design remains closely related to the current Thar, but gives the SUV a slightly more modern appearance.
The headlamps and bumper are also expected to receive revisions. Previous test vehicles have shown circular LED headlamps with integrated C-shaped daytime running lights, giving the Thar a design closer to the newer Thar Roxx. However, the exact production-spec lighting setup is yet to be confirmed by Mahindra.
New Alloy Wheels and Exterior Changes
Along with the revised front end, the latest test mule gets new five-spoke alloy wheels. The design appears more contemporary than the current model and could be offered on selected variants of the facelift.
The wheel arch cladding may also receive minor changes, while the rear section is expected to get subtle updates. Some reports have also indicated the possibility of revised LED tail-lamps and a redesigned rear bumper, although these details have not been officially confirmed yet.
Expected Feature Upgrades
The exterior changes are likely to be accompanied by improvements inside the cabin. Reports suggest that Mahindra could add features such as a digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control and a more premium audio system.
There is also speculation that the updated Thar could receive Level 2 ADAS features, potentially bringing technologies such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance. These features, however, should be considered expectations until Mahindra makes an official announcement.
Engine Options Likely to Continue
The facelift is expected to retain the existing petrol and diesel engine lineup rather than introducing an entirely new powertrain. The current Thar is offered with 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, depending on the variant and drivetrain.
Mahindra is yet to announce the official launch date, but the facelift is expected to arrive in India later in 2026. With its updated styling and possible feature additions, the new Thar could become a more attractive option for buyers looking for a compact lifestyle SUV with strong off-road credentials.
