Hyundai is preparing a major update to its popular Tucson SUV, with the next-generation 2027 Hyundai Tucson expected to bring a completely new design, upgraded hybrid powertrains, and a significantly more technology-focused cabin. The upcoming SUV has already been spotted testing, giving an early indication of the changes Hyundai is planning.
New Boxy and Rugged Design
The biggest change in the 2027 Tucson is expected to be its exterior styling. Spy images suggest that Hyundai will move away from the softer and more rounded design of the current model and adopt a boxier, more upright appearance.
The new SUV is expected to feature a flatter bonnet, squared-off wheel arches, and a more vertical front profile. The design direction appears to take inspiration from newer Hyundai SUVs such as the Santa Fe, giving the Tucson a more rugged and premium road presence. The lighting setup is also expected to receive a major redesign, with vertically positioned lighting elements replacing some of the styling cues seen on the current model.
17-Inch Screen and New Cabin Technology
The cabin of the 2027 Hyundai Tucson is also set for a substantial technology upgrade. Recent spy shots have revealed a large 17-inch central touchscreen, which is expected to run Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment system.
The Android-based system is designed to provide a smartphone-like interface and could support additional connected applications. The SUV is also expected to feature Hyundai’s Gleo AI assistant, which will allow drivers to use natural voice commands for functions such as navigation and climate control.
Despite the large screen, Hyundai is expected to retain physical controls for important functions such as volume and climate-related operations. A digital instrument cluster and upgraded driver-monitoring and ADAS technology are also expected.
Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid Powertrains
Another major change will come under the bonnet. The next-generation Tucson is expected to focus more heavily on electrified powertrains, with strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions likely to form an important part of the global lineup.
Reports suggest that the plug-in hybrid version could offer more than 300hp of combined output, while the PHEV system could provide a useful electric-only driving range. However, Hyundai has not yet confirmed final specifications, engine options, or performance figures for the upcoming model.
India Launch Expected in 2027
For India, the next-generation Hyundai Tucson is expected to arrive sometime in 2027, although the company has not announced an official launch date yet. More details about its powertrain choices, features, dimensions, and pricing are likely to emerge closer to its global debut.
With a tougher design, advanced connected technology, and greater focus on hybrid power, the 2027 Hyundai Tucson could mark one of the biggest changes to Hyundai’s premium SUV in years.
