BMW Group India has rolled out a fresh limited-edition drop for open-top fans: the MINI Convertible Stardust Edition, now on sale in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 62.90 lakh. That’s a premium of roughly Rs 3.9 lakh over the standard Cooper Convertible it’s built on, and it instantly becomes one of the most expensive MINI models money can buy in the country.
A Design Inspired by Twilight
The name “Stardust” isn’t just marketing fluff, MINI says the special edition takes cues from the shifting colours of the evening sky. The car wears an exclusive Sparkling Copper Grey exterior paired with elegant Champagne accents, giving it a look that’s genuinely different from anything else in the MINI Convertible lineup. The ORVMs get a contrasting vibrant silver finish, matched by 18-inch JCW Rallye Spoke alloy wheels in the same silver shade.
A nice heritage touch comes from the signature MINI Yours Soft Top, which showcases the iconic Union Jack graphic, a subtle nod to the brand’s British roots, even though every unit sold here arrives as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) import.
Speaking at the launch, Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, said the MINI Convertible has always drawn buyers who value fun, freedom, and individuality, and that the Stardust Edition takes that appeal a notch further with a design built to stay rare on Indian roads.
Performance and Efficiency
Under the hood sits a familiar but potent unit, a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing around 201-204 BHP and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. That combination is enough to send the Stardust Edition from 0-100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, a genuinely quick number for a convertible in this price bracket.
Despite the performance focus, MINI claims a fuel efficiency figure of 16.82 km/l, slightly better than the regular Cooper Convertible’s 16.39 km/l. Credit goes to the brand’s MINIMALISM technology package, which bundles auto start-stop, brake energy recuperation, and active cooling air ducts to trim consumption without blunting the driving experience.
Features and Safety
Buyers get a modern digital cockpit along with MINI’s usual suite of connected features. On the safety side, the Stardust Edition comes equipped with ADAS Level 1, giving it a layer of driver-assistance tech that’s becoming increasingly common even in niche, low-volume models like this one.
Exclusivity Is the Whole Point
This isn’t a car you’ll casually spot at your local MINI showroom. It’s sold in strictly limited numbers and can only be booked through the MINI India website, reinforcing its position as a lifestyle purchase rather than a volume model. Deliveries have already begun for buyers who move quickly enough to secure one.
Should You Buy It?
At Rs 62.90 lakh, the Stardust Edition isn’t about outright value; it’s about owning something rare. If you already love the MINI Convertible experience and want a version that stands out even among other MINIs, the unique paint scheme, Union Jack soft top, and limited production run make a strong case. For buyers chasing pure performance-per-rupee, the standard Cooper Convertible or the JCW Pack variant remain more sensible option.
Either way, MINI has once again proven that in India’s compact luxury convertible space, it’s practically driving solo. The only real alternative at this price point remains the significantly pricier MG Cyberster.
