Mahindra is preparing to give the popular Thar 3-door a significant update, with the facelift expected to arrive in India in 2026. The upcoming Mahindra Thar facelift has been spotted in testing several times and is likely to borrow several styling and feature elements from the larger Thar Roxx.
According to reports, Mahindra is expected to launch the updated Thar around August 2026. While the company has not officially announced an exact launch date yet, the facelift is widely expected to arrive during the current calendar year. Earlier reports had confirmed that the Thar 3-door facelift is part of Mahindra’s 2026 product plan.
That Facelift to Get Roxx-Inspired Styling
The biggest changes are expected on the design front. The current Thar has retained its distinctive boxy appearance since its 2020-generation launch, but the facelift is likely to introduce a more modern look without moving away from its traditional character.
The updated SUV is expected to take design inspiration from the Thar Roxx, particularly around the front-end styling. Changes could include revised LED lighting, a redesigned grille, updated bumpers, and refreshed alloy wheel designs.
Mahindra is unlikely to make the Thar look completely different. Instead, the focus appears to be on making the three-door SUV feel more modern while retaining the rugged identity that has made it popular among Indian SUV buyers.
More Features Inside the Cabin
The interior could receive a more noticeable upgrade. The current Thar has already gained popularity for its rugged design, but its cabin is relatively basic compared with newer SUVs in the segment.
The facelift is expected to bring a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a more modern digital instrument cluster, and an updated steering wheel. Other expected additions could include a 360-degree camera, improved connectivity features, wireless charging, and additional convenience equipment.
Some reports have also suggested that advanced safety and driver-assistance features could be introduced, although the exact equipment list will only become clear closer to the launch.
Engines Expected to Remain Unchanged
Mahindra is not expected to make major mechanical changes with the facelift. The current engine lineup is expected to continue, featuring petrol and diesel options, as well as manual and automatic gearbox choices.
The 4×4 system is also expected to remain an important part of the Thar’s identity. This means the facelift should continue to appeal to buyers who want a lifestyle SUV with genuine off-road capability rather than just a stylish urban vehicle.
Expected Price and Competition
The updated Thar is likely to command a slight premium over the current model because of the additional styling and technology upgrades. The existing Thar range has already seen multiple price revisions in 2026.
Once launched, the facelifted Thar will continue to compete with lifestyle SUVs like the Force Gurkha and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
With an expected August 2026 launch, the Mahindra Thar facelift could become one of the most anticipated updates in the lifestyle SUV segment this year. More details about its features, variants, and pricing are expected to emerge closer to the official launch.
