Maruti Second EV India: New Electric Car to Debut Next Year

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India, and the company’s second EV could make its public debut next year. According to recent reports, the new electric model is expected to be showcased at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Expo, marking another important step in Maruti’s long-term EV strategy. While the company has not officially confirmed the vehicle’s identity, industry sources suggest that development is progressing steadily.

Maruti’s first electric offering, the e Vitara, is already set to establish the brand’s presence in India’s fast-growing EV market. The upcoming second EV is likely to target a wider audience and strengthen Maruti’s position against rivals such as Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, and MG, all of which have been expanding their electric portfolios.

Although Maruti has remained tight-lipped about the exact model, reports indicate that the company is evaluating two possible body styles. One possibility is a practical electric MPV designed for family buyers, while another could be a compact crossover that appeals to urban customers. The final production version is expected to prioritize practicality, spacious interiors, and affordability, which have always been key strengths of the brand.

The new EV is also expected to benefit from Suzuki’s latest electric vehicle architecture. If the reports prove accurate, buyers can expect a modern cabin featuring a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, advanced safety equipment, and Level 2 ADAS in higher variants. Battery specifications have not yet been confirmed, but industry expectations point toward a driving range of around 500 km on a full charge, making it competitive with upcoming rivals.

Maruti Suzuki has repeatedly stated that it is following a multi-powertrain strategy rather than focusing only on battery-electric vehicles. The company continues to invest in hybrids, CNG models, flex-fuel technology, and EVs to cater to different customer needs. This balanced approach allows Maruti to adapt to changing market demand while gradually increasing its electric vehicle presence in India.

The timing of this second EV also reflects the rapid growth of India’s electric mobility ecosystem. Charging infrastructure is improving, government policies continue to support EV adoption, and customer interest in zero-emission vehicles is rising steadily. By introducing another electric model soon after the e-Vitara, Maruti aims to remain competitive as more manufacturers enter the segment.

For now, official specifications, pricing, and the final name of Maruti’s second EV remain under wraps. However, if the expected showcase takes place next year, more concrete details should emerge in the months leading up to the event. Until then, the model remains one of the most anticipated upcoming electric vehicles from India’s largest carmaker.
