Hyundai is preparing the next-generation Tucson, which is expected to bring major changes in design, technology and powertrain options. The new SUV is currently being tested in international markets and is expected to arrive as a 2027 model globally. One of the biggest highlights will be the availability of hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, giving the Tucson a stronger electrified focus.
New Hyundai Tucson Expected to Get Sharper Design
The upcoming Hyundai Tucson is expected to feature a more rugged and muscular exterior compared to the current-generation model. Test vehicles spotted overseas suggest that Hyundai is working on a tougher design theme, while the overall proportions are expected to retain the familiar SUV character.
The new-generation model is expected to receive redesigned lighting elements, a revised front fascia and updated body detailing. Hyundai is also likely to offer different styling elements depending on the market and variant.
Hybrid and PHEV Powertrains to Be Key Highlights
The biggest change for the new Tucson will be its electrified powertrain strategy. Hyundai is expected to offer both a conventional hybrid and a plug-in hybrid version in international markets.
The current Tucson Hybrid in global markets already uses a turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, while the existing Tucson PHEV combines a turbo-petrol engine with a larger battery pack that allows limited electric-only driving. Hyundai’s international Tucson PHEV currently offers up to around 71 km of electric range in European specifications.
For the next-generation SUV, Hyundai could further improve the efficiency and performance of these electrified powertrains. However, exact engine specifications, battery capacity and system output for the new model have not yet been officially confirmed.
17-Inch Display and More Technology
The cabin of the upcoming Tucson is also expected to receive a significant technology upgrade. Reports indicate that the new SUV could feature a large 17-inch display along with an updated dashboard layout and more advanced connected-car functions. Advanced driver assistance systems are also expected to form an important part of the new Tucson’s equipment package.
The focus will likely be on making the cabin more premium while improving the usability of Hyundai’s infotainment and connected features.
India Launch Could Take Place Later
The new Tucson is expected to make its global debut around the 2026-27 period, while an India launch could follow at a later stage. However, Hyundai has not yet announced an official India launch date or confirmed which powertrain options will be offered here.
If Hyundai brings the hybrid technology to India, the new Tucson could become a more attractive premium SUV for buyers looking for better fuel efficiency without moving completely to an electric vehicle.
