Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new AI-powered vehicle scanning technology in India, aiming to make the car servicing process faster, more transparent and less dependent on manual inspection. The technology, called the XENTRY Vehicle Scanner, has been deployed at the newly opened Landmark Cars facility in Jogeshwari West, Mumbai. It is currently the first automated AI-powered vehicle scanner of its kind introduced by a carmaker in India.
The XENTRY scanner is designed to inspect a vehicle as soon as it enters the service centre. Instead of relying entirely on a service advisor to walk around the car and record its condition, the vehicle is driven through a dedicated scanning area. The system uses 13 cameras along with a LiDAR sensor to capture approximately 150 images of the vehicle within just a few seconds.

The captured images are then analysed using artificial intelligence. The system checks several areas, including the exterior body, windshield, tyres and underbody. It can identify scratches, dents and other visible damage while also providing information about tyre condition and tread depth. The technology can also detect underbody damage and identify different types of fluid leaks, which can be difficult to spot during a quick manual inspection.
One of the biggest advantages of the system is that it creates a standardised digital record of the vehicle’s condition. Mercedes-Benz says the images are anonymised before being processed by AI, while the inspection findings are added directly to the workshop job card and reception report. Customers can then view the detected issues and discuss the required repairs with the service advisor.
This could also improve transparency during servicing. For example, if a car already has a scratch or dent before entering the workshop, the digital inspection record can provide a clear reference. This may reduce confusion over whether particular damage existed before or occurred during the service process.

The new scanner is part of Mercedes-Benz’s larger 58,000 sq ft Landmark Cars facility in Jogeshwari West. The workshop has 33 bays and can handle around 150 cars per day. The facility also includes dedicated body and paint areas, supporting bays and a large spare-parts section.
Mercedes-Benz has already deployed the XENTRY scanner in markets including Germany, Italy, South Korea, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Turkey. Its introduction in India marks another step towards a more technology-driven after-sales experience, where AI and digital tools could make vehicle servicing quicker and more transparent for customers.
