Kia Sorento MG,Hector Tomahawk Launching Soon in India

India’s 7-seater SUV segment is set to witness two important launches in the coming weeks, with Kia and JSW MG Motor preparing to introduce their new three-row SUVs. The Kia Sorento is scheduled to arrive in India on September 4, 2026, while the MG Hector Tomahawk is expected to make its debut on August 26.

MG Hector Tomahawk to Arrive First

The MG Hector Tomahawk will be the first of the two SUVs to enter the market. JSW MG Motor India has confirmed the launch for August 26, with the model positioned above the existing Hector in the company’s SUV range. The upcoming SUV will initially be introduced as a fully electric model and will offer seating for seven occupants.

The Hector Tomahawk is based on MG’s new ADAPT architecture, which has been developed to support different types of electrified powertrains. The India-spec model is expected to use a 69.2kWh battery pack, while the international equivalent has a claimed range of up to 530km under the CLTC cycle. The official India-spec range figure is yet to be announced.

With its three-row layout, premium cabin and electric powertrain, the Tomahawk is expected to target buyers looking for a spacious family SUV with zero-emission driving.

Kia Sorento to Follow in September

Just over a week later, Kia will introduce the Sorento in India on September 4, 2026. The three-row SUV will mark an important expansion of Kia’s premium SUV portfolio in the country. The India-spec Sorento is expected to be offered with a hybrid powertrain, making it Kia’s first hybrid SUV for the Indian market.

The Sorento is already sold internationally and is known for its spacious cabin and premium equipment. Kia has confirmed that the India-spec version will get an all-wheel-drive system, adding to its appeal for buyers seeking a more capable family SUV.

Two SUVs, Two Different Approaches

The biggest difference between the two upcoming SUVs will be their powertrain strategy. The MG Hector Tomahawk will initially focus on pure electric mobility, while the Kia Sorento will bring hybrid technology to the premium three-row SUV space.

Both models will appeal to families wanting more space, technology and premium features, but their different powertrains could attract different types of buyers. With the Hector Tomahawk arriving on August 26 and the Sorento following on September 4, Indian SUV buyers will soon have two new options to consider in the fast-growing 7-seater segment.
