Kia India is preparing to expand its hybrid portfolio with strong hybrid versions of three popular models – the Sonet, Carens, Clavis and Seltos. The company has confirmed that these models will receive hybrid powertrains for the Indian market by 2029, marking a significant step in Kia’s electrification strategy.
The announcement comes as Kia plans to introduce multiple hybrid models in India over the next few years. The company will begin its hybrid journey with the Sorento, which is scheduled to launch in India on September 4, 2026. The Carnival Hybrid is also expected to join the lineup before the end of this year.
Kia Sonet Hybrid Expected by 2028-29
The next-generation Kia Sonet is already being tested on Indian roads and is expected to arrive in 2027. The new-generation compact SUV is likely to get a strong hybrid powertrain around 2028 or 2029.
Kia has not revealed technical details of the upcoming Sonet Hybrid yet. However, reports suggest that the company is working on a new entry-level hybrid system designed for smaller vehicles. This could help the Sonet deliver better fuel efficiency while maintaining the practicality expected from a compact SUV.

Carens Clavis Hybrid Also Confirmed
The Kia Carens Clavis is another model confirmed to receive hybrid technology by 2029. The Clavis currently serves as Kia’s family-oriented MPV, while its EV version has already expanded the brand’s electric portfolio in India. Kia’s official investor material has highlighted the Clavis EV as part of its electrification plans.
A strong hybrid version could make the Clavis more attractive to buyers looking for a spacious family vehicle with improved fuel economy. It could also provide Kia with an important alternative for customers who are not ready to shift completely to an electric vehicle.
Seltos Hybrid Could Strengthen Kia’s SUV Lineup
The Seltos will also receive a strong hybrid powertrain as part of Kia’s India strategy. The company has already introduced the new-generation Seltos in India, and hybrid technology is expected to become an important part of its future lineup. Kia’s investor presentation has identified the new Seltos as a key model for its India growth plans.
