Hyundai is preparing a major update to one of its most important models in India. The new-generation Hyundai Creta has now been confirmed for the Indian market, with its launch expected sometime in 2027. The upcoming SUV will mark the third generation of the Creta in India and is expected to bring major changes in design, technology, cabin space and powertrain options.
The Creta has remained one of Hyundai India’s strongest performers in the mid-size SUV segment. With increasing competition from models such as the Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and upcoming SUVs, the next-generation model will have an important role in maintaining Hyundai’s position in the segment.
New Design Expected
The new Creta is expected to receive a substantially redesigned exterior rather than a simple facelift. Test vehicles spotted overseas and in India suggest a more upright and modern appearance, along with revised front and rear styling.
Expected changes include redesigned lighting elements, new bumpers, updated alloy wheels, revised ORVMs, and changes around the quarter panels. The SUV could also become slightly larger, potentially offering more cabin and luggage space than the current model.
Completely Redesigned Interior
The cabin is expected to receive one of the biggest upgrades. Spy shots have indicated a completely redesigned dashboard with a curved-screen layout and a more premium overall appearance.
The new Creta is also expected to introduce Hyundai’s Pleos infotainment system in India. Other reported features include a new digital driver display, larger touchscreen infotainment, redesigned seats and a front passenger “boss mode” function. These upgrades could give the SUV a more premium experience and help it compete with newer rivals.
Hybrid Powertrain Could Be a Major Highlight
While Hyundai has not revealed the complete engine lineup yet, the next-generation Creta is expected to continue with petrol and diesel options. More importantly, a strong-hybrid powertrain is reportedly being considered for the new model.
Earlier reports have indicated that Hyundai could use a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor for the hybrid version. If introduced, the Creta would compete more directly with hybrid SUVs such as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The existing petrol and diesel engines could also continue, although Hyundai may make changes to meet future emissions and efficiency requirements.
Launch Timeline and What to Expect
The new-generation Hyundai Creta is expected to arrive in India in 2027, with March 2027 being reported as a possible launch window. However, Hyundai has not announced an exact launch date or final specifications yet.
The upcoming Creta will be an important launch for Hyundai as the company continues expanding its SUV portfolio. With a new design, upgraded technology, a more premium cabin and the possibility of hybrid power, the third-generation Creta could represent one of the biggest changes to the nameplate since its introduction in India.
More details about the engine options, dimensions, features and pricing are expected to emerge closer to the launch.
