Hyundai is preparing to enter India’s growing strong-hybrid SUV segment, with the next-generation Creta expected to become the company’s first hybrid SUV for the Indian market. The new-generation Hyundai Creta has already been confirmed for India, while testing of the upcoming SUV has also begun. The hybrid version is expected to arrive in 2027.
The move comes at a time when Indian car buyers are increasingly looking for better fuel efficiency without completely switching to an electric vehicle. Hyundai is also expanding its India portfolio as part of a larger plan to introduce 26 new models in the country by 2030.
Next-Gen Hyundai Creta Hybrid Expected in 2027
The upcoming Creta will represent a major change over the current model. The new SUV is expected to use Hyundai-Kia’s K3 platform, which also underpins the next-generation Kia Seltos. Spy images indicate that the new Creta could grow in size, offering additional cabin and luggage space.
The next-generation Creta is expected to make its public debut around 2027, with reports suggesting that Hyundai could showcase the model at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The company has not yet announced an exact launch date or confirmed the hybrid variant’s specifications.
Strong Hybrid Powertrain Could Deliver Around 25kmpl
The biggest highlight of the upcoming SUV will be its strong-hybrid powertrain. Reports suggest that Hyundai could combine a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a small battery pack and an electric motor. This setup is expected to prioritise fuel efficiency and smooth performance rather than outright power.
Hyundai could target fuel efficiency of around 25kmpl with the Creta Hybrid. However, the final efficiency figure will only be known once the company reveals the production-spec powertrain and conducts official certification tests.
The regular Creta is expected to continue with petrol and diesel engine options alongside the hybrid powertrain, giving customers multiple choices depending on their usage. The current Creta is offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine.
New Design and More Technology Expected
The new-generation Creta is expected to receive a substantially redesigned exterior with a more upright and futuristic appearance. Reports suggest that the SUV could feature a taller bonnet, flatter roofline and more distinctive lighting elements inspired by Hyundai’s newer design language.
Inside, Hyundai is expected to introduce a more premium dashboard layout with its Pleos Connect infotainment system. Features could include a large touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, connected-car technology, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, 360-degree camera and advanced driver assistance systems.
Hyundai’s Hybrid Strategy in India
The Creta Hybrid will be an important model for Hyundai as the company expands its electrified vehicle portfolio. While the automaker already sells EVs in India, a strong hybrid could appeal to buyers who want improved fuel economy without charging requirements.
Hyundai is also reportedly working on additional hybrid SUVs for India, including larger models planned for the coming years.
With the next-generation Creta already confirmed for India, the hybrid version could become one of Hyundai’s most significant upcoming launches. More details about its powertrain, variants, pricing and launch timeline are expected to emerge closer to its market introduction.
