Volvo is preparing to strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio in India with two new flagship models. The Volvo EX90 electric SUV and ES90 electric sedan have now been listed on the company’s Indian website ahead of their official launch on October 12, 2026. The two models will sit at the top of Volvo’s electric range in India and bring the brand’s latest technology, safety systems and premium features to the market.
The upcoming launch is significant for Volvo India as the company is introducing both models together. The EX90 will serve as the electric counterpart to the XC90, while the ES90 will bring Volvo back into the premium luxury sedan segment after the S90 was discontinued in India.
Volvo EX90: Flagship Electric SUV
The EX90 is Volvo’s largest electric SUV and comes with three-row seating, making it suitable for buyers looking for a premium family vehicle with an electric powertrain. Globally, the SUV is offered with different powertrain configurations, including all-wheel-drive versions.
The flagship EX90 is based on Volvo’s dedicated electric architecture and features a large battery pack. One of the global versions uses a 111kWh battery with a twin-motor all-wheel-drive setup, producing up to 517bhp and 910Nm of torque. Volvo claims a WLTP range of around 600km, while fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent can take less than 30 minutes.
The EX90 also focuses heavily on safety and advanced technology, areas that have traditionally been central to Volvo’s identity. It features advanced driver assistance systems, sophisticated sensors and a software-focused electrical architecture. Features such as multiple digital displays, premium upholstery, multi-zone climate control and a comprehensive LED lighting package are expected to be part of the India-spec model.
Volvo ES90: New Luxury Electric Sedan
Alongside the EX90, Volvo will introduce the ES90, a fully electric luxury sedan designed to compete in a segment dominated by established premium manufacturers. The model will effectively replace the space left by the S90 while offering a completely new electric platform and technology package.
The ES90 is built around a large 92kWh battery in one of its configurations and can offer a claimed range of up to 625km. Higher-spec versions are also available with all-wheel drive. Its long, aerodynamic design is designed to deliver both a premium road presence and improved efficiency.
Volvo has also highlighted the ES90’s software-defined technology. The company describes it as one of its most technologically advanced cars, with substantial computing capability that enables the vehicle’s functions and systems to improve through software updates over time.
Expected Price and Rivals
Volvo is yet to announce final India-spec variants and prices. However, the EX90 is expected to be positioned around the Rs. 1 crore-plus mark, while the ES90 could be priced in the Rs. 70 lakh to Rs. 75 lakh range, depending on the variants and equipment offered.
The EX90 will enter competition with premium electric SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, while the ES90 will face luxury electric sedans from BMW and other established brands.
With both models listed ahead of their October 12 debut, Volvo’s flagship EV strategy for India is now becoming clearer. The EX90 will appeal to buyers seeking a large, technology-rich electric SUV, while the ES90 could attract customers looking for a premium electric sedan with Scandinavian design and advanced safety technology. More details on India-specific specifications, variants and pricing are expected to be revealed closer to the launch.
