Maruti Suzuki is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio beyond the e-Vitara, and its upcoming three-row electric model could become one of the company’s most important launches in India. Internally known as the YMC, the new EV is expected to offer seven seats, a practical MPV-inspired design and a claimed driving range of more than 500km.
New 7-Seater EV to Target Family Buyers
The upcoming Maruti EV is expected to follow a three-row layout, making it significantly different from the current e-Vitara. Test vehicles have reportedly shown a tall and upright body, along with a relatively long wheelbase designed to maximise cabin space.
With seven seats, the YMC could appeal to large families looking for an electric vehicle that can handle daily commuting as well as longer journeys. The model is expected to remain around the 4.5-metre mark, which could help Maruti maintain a practical footprint for Indian roads.
Over 500km Range Expected
One of the biggest highlights of the upcoming Maruti electric MPV could be its driving range. Reports suggest that the YMC may offer a claimed range of more than 500km on a single charge.
Maruti has not yet revealed the battery capacity, motor specifications or charging figures for the model. However, the upcoming EV is expected to use technology related to the brand’s existing electric platform.
The e Vitara itself is available with 49kWh and 61kWh battery options and offers a claimed range of up to 543km, showing Maruti’s focus on making long-range EVs more practical for Indian customers.
Could Become Maruti’s Second Major EV
The YMC will be important for Maruti Suzuki because the company entered India’s electric passenger vehicle market later than several rivals. The e Vitara is currently leading its EV strategy, supported by Maruti’s dedicated charging ecosystem and EV-ready service network.
A seven-seater electric model could allow the company to enter a relatively new segment where demand is expected to increase as more family-oriented EVs arrive.
The upcoming model could face competition from larger electric SUVs and MPVs, including recently introduced three-row EVs. However, Maruti’s extensive sales and service network could give the YMC an advantage if it is priced competitively.
Launch Timeline and Expectations
Maruti Suzuki has not officially announced the launch date, pricing or final specifications of the YMC. More details are expected to emerge closer to its market introduction.
If Maruti manages to combine seven-seat practicality, a 500km-plus claimed range and competitive pricing, the YMC could become a major product in the company’s next phase of electric mobility.
