JSW Motors is preparing to make a strong entry into India’s passenger vehicle market with a new range of SUVs based on models from Chinese automaker Chery. Among the most anticipated products are the Jetour T2 PHEV, iCar-V23 EV and Jaecoo J5 EV. These three SUVs have already been spotted testing on Indian roads, indicating that development for the market is well underway.
Jetour T2 PHEV Could Lead the Line-Up
The Jetour T2-based SUV is expected to become the first product from JSW Motors in India. While an earlier launch around Diwali 2026 was anticipated, recent reports suggest that the launch could now happen in early 2027, with the models potentially being showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2027.
The T2 PHEV is expected to use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with electric motors and a 26.7kWh battery pack. The global-spec system develops around 381hp and 610Nm, while the SUV can reportedly deliver up to 139km of electric-only driving range. Its overall driving range could cross 1,000km, making it an interesting alternative to conventional petrol and diesel SUVs.
iCar-V23 to Bring a Rugged Electric SUV
The iCar-V23 will be positioned as a more lifestyle-focused electric SUV. Its boxy design, round headlamps, flared wheel arches and upright stance give it a distinctive off-road-inspired appearance.
Internationally, the model is available with 59.93kWh and 81.76kWh battery options. The larger battery is paired with an all-wheel-drive dual-motor setup, while the smaller pack uses a single motor. Depending on the version, the claimed range can reach around 510km.
The cabin is expected to feature a large touchscreen, connected technology, automatic climate control and premium front seats. The India-spec version is likely to receive changes to suit local requirements.
Jaecoo J5 EV to Join the Line-Up
The third model will be based on the Jaecoo J5 and is expected to arrive as a five-seater electric SUV. It could feature a 60.9kWh battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing around 210hp and 288Nm. The claimed range is approximately 461km.
The J5 EV is also expected to offer features such as a large vertically oriented touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, advanced driver assistance systems and a 540-degree camera system.
With three distinct SUVs covering plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains, JSW Motors is preparing an interesting portfolio for India. However, final launch dates, specifications, and prices are yet to be officially confirmed.
