Tata Motors is preparing a major update for one of its most important compact SUVs, the Nexon. The next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to arrive in India in 2027, bringing significant changes to the design, platform, cabin, and technology. Recent test mules spotted on Indian roads have also indicated that Tata is working on more than just another facelift.
New Design Expected
The 2027 Tata Nexon is likely to get a completely redesigned exterior while retaining the familiar compact SUV proportions. Spy images suggest changes to the A-pillar, rear doors, roofline and rear section, indicating a more substantial generation change.
The new model is expected to follow Tata’s latest design language, with sharper styling and cleaner body surfaces. Revised LED lighting, new bumpers, redesigned alloy wheels and a more modern rear profile could give the Nexon a stronger road presence.
Updated Platform and Structure
Internally known as the Garud project, the next-generation Nexon is expected to use a heavily reworked version of Tata’s existing X1 architecture. Reports suggest that the platform will receive major structural changes rather than being carried over unchanged. Some reports also refer to the evolved architecture as ATLAS.
This could help Tata improve the Nexon’s ride, handling, cabin space, and structural strength while keeping the SUV within the compact dimensions of the current model.
More Features and Technology
The cabin is expected to receive a major overhaul. Tata could introduce a redesigned dashboard with larger or updated displays, a new infotainment interface, and improved materials.
The current Nexon already offers features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and advanced safety technology. The next-generation model could build on this with additional comfort features, connected technology and upgraded driver assistance systems.
Safety is also expected to remain a key focus, with features such as Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, multiple airbags and electronic safety systems likely to continue.
Petrol, CNG and Diesel Engines
The powertrain lineup is still not officially confirmed. The new Nexon is expected to retain petrol and CNG options, while the future of the 1.5-litre diesel engine remains uncertain because of tightening emission regulations and declining demand for diesel compact SUVs.
An updated Nexon EV is also expected, although Tata could launch the electric version separately. A longer driving range and improved technology would help it compete in the rapidly growing electric SUV market.
Expected Launch and Price
The 2027 Tata Nexon is expected to launch sometime in 2027. Tata has not yet officially announced the launch date or final specifications. With the extensive changes expected, the new Nexon could command a premium over the current model.
It will continue to compete with rivals such as the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet and Skoda Kylaq.
For buyers looking for a major upgrade rather than another facelift, the 2027 Nexon could be one of Tata’s most important launches in the compact SUV segment.
