Maruti Suzuki is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with a new three-row model aimed at buyers looking for a practical and spacious family EV. The upcoming electric vehicle, internally referred to as the YMC, is expected to arrive in India in 2027 and could become Maruti’s first three-row electric model.
Maruti YMC EV: What We Know So Far
The upcoming Maruti 7-seater EV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads. While it is often described as an electric SUV, its test vehicle suggests a more MPV-like body style, with a tall and upright profile designed to maximise cabin space.
The new model is expected to be positioned as a family-focused EV, offering three rows of seating and space for up to seven occupants. This could make it particularly appealing to buyers who want the practicality of an Ertiga or XL6 combined with an electric powertrain.
Platform and Battery Details
The upcoming Maruti EV is expected to use the HEARTECT-e platform that also underpins the Maruti e Vitara. The e Vitara is currently offered with 49kWh and 61kWh battery options, with the larger battery providing a claimed range of up to 543km.
Maruti could use similar battery and electric motor technology for the YMC. However, the larger and heavier three-row model is unlikely to deliver the same range as the e Vitara. Final battery capacity, motor output, and certified range are yet to be confirmed.
Reports have also suggested that the new electric MPV could target a range of around 500km, although this figure should be treated as an expectation until Maruti makes an official announcement.
Design and Features
Spy shots indicate a practical design rather than a heavily styled SUV appearance. The vehicle is expected to get a tall roofline, a large rear section and vertically positioned tail-lamps.
Inside, Maruti is likely to focus on space, comfort and everyday usability. Higher variants could receive features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected technology, multiple airbags and advanced driver assistance features. Level 2 ADAS has also been reported as a possibility, although Maruti has not confirmed the equipment list yet.
Expected Price and Rivals
The Maruti 7-seater EV is expected to be positioned below premium three-row electric SUVs. Its estimated price could be around Rs 14 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom.
The upcoming EV could compete with models such as the Kia Carens Clavis EV while offering Maruti’s strong nationwide sales and service network as a major advantage.
With its combination of three-row practicality, electric technology and a potentially accessible price, the YMC could become an important model in Maruti Suzuki’s EV strategy when it arrives in 2027.
