BMW X1 LWB Launched in India at Rs 49.90 Lakh

BMW India has launched the new X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in the country at an introductory price of Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The new version of the luxury SUV gets a stretched wheelbase, a more spacious rear cabin, a new petrol engine and several additional technology features. It is locally produced at BMW Group’s Chennai plant and is available in a petrol-only configuration.

The BMW X1 LWB has been developed to cater to buyers who want a more spacious luxury SUV without moving up to a larger and more expensive model. Compared with the standard X1, the new version gets a significantly longer body and wheelbase, giving rear passengers considerably more room.

BMW X1 LWB Gets a Longer Wheelbase

The new BMW X1 LWB measures 4,616mm in length, while the wheelbase stands at 2,800mm. This makes the wheelbase around 108mm longer than the standard X1. BMW claims that the additional length creates one of the most spacious rear cabins in its segment.

The extended dimensions provide up to 150mm more rear legroom and 109mm additional knee room. The rear seats can also recline by up to 28.5 degrees, making the SUV more suitable for buyers who frequently travel with rear passengers. Boot space is rated at 540 litres and can be expanded to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folded.

Premium Interior and New Features

Inside, the BMW X1 LWB retains the modern dashboard layout of the standard X1 but adds several premium features. The cabin gets a widescreen curved display, ambient lighting, electrically adjustable front seats and a panoramic sunroof.

One of the major highlights is the large 9-square-foot panoramic sunroof. The SUV also comes equipped with a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera, parking assistance and connected-car technology.

BMW has also introduced Digital Key Plus and Comfort Access 2.0. The digital key allows compatible smartphones to be used for locking, unlocking and starting the vehicle.

New 1.5-Litre Turbo Petrol Engine

Powering the BMW X1 LWB is a 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo petrol engine producing 156hp and 230Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and sends power to the front wheels. BMW claims a fuel efficiency figure of 15.5kmpl.

The new petrol powertrain is aimed at offering a balance between performance and everyday usability, particularly for urban driving.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The X1 LWB comes with a comprehensive safety package including eight airbags, ABS with brake assist, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX mounts. It also gets lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking and driver attention monitoring.

The SUV further benefits from a reversing assistant that can remember the last 50 metres of driving and automatically steer the vehicle back along the same route.

With its larger cabin, upgraded features and locally assembled petrol powertrain, the new BMW X1 LWB adds a more comfort-focused option to BMW’s entry-level SUV range in India. At Rs 49.90 lakh, it is positioned as an attractive choice for buyers looking for BMW’s luxury experience with additional rear-seat practicality.
