Honda 7-Seater SUV and New Sub-4m SUV Coming to India

Honda Cars India is preparing for a major expansion of its SUV portfolio, with two new models reportedly under development for the Indian market. The Japanese carmaker is working on an all-new sub-4-metre SUV that will take on the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO, while a larger three-row SUV is also expected to join the lineup.

New Honda Sub-4m SUV Coming in 2028

Honda has officially confirmed plans to launch a new sub-4-metre SUV in India by 2028. The upcoming model will be positioned below the Elevate and marks Honda’s return to this highly competitive segment after the discontinuation of the WR-V.

The company has indicated that the new SUV will be developed specifically around Indian customer requirements. Honda is also targeting strong refinement, quality and fuel efficiency, which could become key selling points in a segment already crowded with established players.

According to recent reports, the SUV could use Honda’s new PF2 modular architecture. The platform is expected to support different powertrain technologies, including petrol, hybrid and potentially fully electric setups. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine has also been reported, although Honda has not officially confirmed the engine specifications yet.

New 7-Seater SUV Also in the Pipeline

Alongside the compact SUV, Honda is reportedly developing a larger three-row SUV measuring around 4.6 to 4.7 metres in length. The model could arrive in India around late 2027 or early 2028 and is expected to compete with the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and other three-row SUVs.

The upcoming SUV could be offered in both six- and seven-seat configurations, with the six-seat version potentially featuring captain seats in the second row. A 1.5-litre petrol engine and Honda’s e:HEV strong-hybrid technology are among the powertrain possibilities reported for the model.

Honda’s SUV Strategy Gets More Aggressive

These two SUVs could play an important role in Honda’s plan to strengthen its presence in India. The company has announced an ambitious product expansion strategy, with several new models planned for the country by 2030.

While official prices, specifications and names are yet to be revealed, Honda’s upcoming SUVs could give the brand a much stronger presence in both the compact and three-row SUV segments. With the Nexon-rival expected in 2028 and the seven-seater potentially arriving around the same period, Honda is clearly preparing for a more competitive future in India.
