JSW Combat SUV: Jetour T2-Based PHEV India Launch

JSW Motors is preparing to enter India’s passenger vehicle market with its first independently branded SUV, and the upcoming Jetour T2-based model could be called the Combat. The name has reportedly been selected for the rugged-looking SUV as JSW prepares to introduce its new product around the upcoming festive season.

The Combat will be based on the Jetour T2, which is sold internationally as a lifestyle-oriented SUV with a boxy design and plug-in hybrid technology. Unlike the global model, the India-spec vehicle will carry a JSW badge and will be sold under the company’s own brand. Recent reports indicate that the Combat name has now emerged as the likely production name for the SUV.

Rugged Design to Define the Combat

The Jetour T2 has a distinctive upright design, squared-off wheel arches, short overhangs and a tall bonnet. These styling elements give it a strong road presence and make the Combat name particularly suitable for JSW’s first SUV.

The India-spec model has already been spotted testing, while JSW has previously teased the vehicle as part of its dealer recruitment campaign. The SUV is expected to retain much of the T2’s overall design, although it will receive JSW-specific branding and some India-specific changes.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Expected

The biggest highlight of the upcoming Combat is expected to be its plug-in hybrid powertrain. The global Jetour T2 i-DM uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine combined with electric motors and a sizeable battery pack. Depending on the version, the international model is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

For India, JSW is expected to offer the SUV with the PHEV setup, although the final specifications and drivetrain configuration are yet to be officially confirmed. The global T2 PHEV uses a 26.7kWh battery and can deliver a meaningful electric-only driving range before the petrol engine takes over for longer journeys.

JSW Motors’ First Independent SUV

The Combat is important for JSW because it will mark the company’s independent entry into India’s passenger vehicle market. The project is being developed through a technology partnership with Chery, while local assembly is planned at JSW’s manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

The company has also been working on increasing localisation as production progresses. This could eventually help JSW position its products more competitively in the Indian market.

With its rugged styling, PHEV technology and a new brand identity, the JSW Combat could give Indian buyers an unusual alternative to conventional petrol, diesel and hybrid SUVs. More details on pricing, specifications and the exact launch date are expected closer to its market introduction.
