The Mahindra Thar facelift spotted testing on Indian roads has got enthusiasts talking once again. Fresh spy shots have surfaced showing a camouflage-wrapped test mule, and honestly, the changes look more substantial than a simple refresh. Mahindra seems serious about giving the iconic three-door SUV a proper glow-up before the end of 2026.
The Look Is Getting a Serious Makeover
If you loved Thar Roxx’s styling, you’re going to like where this is heading. The facelifted Thar is clearly borrowing design cues from its bigger sibling, and it shows.
The front end gets the most attention. The grille looks cleaner and more upright, while those signature circular headlamps now appear to sit flush rather than recessed, a small change that makes a big visual difference. Add in C-shaped LED DRLs, redesigned LED tail lamps, and updated bumpers, and the new Thar looks noticeably sharper than the outgoing model. For an off-road-focused SUV, this would be a genuinely impressive addition.
Safety staples like six airbags, ESC, hill descent control, hill hold assist, TPMS, and a 360-degree camera are expected to carry over as well.
Engines Stay the Same, and That’s Fine
Mechanically, don’t expect any surprises. Mahindra is likely sticking with the proven 2.0-liter mStallion turbo-petrol and 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engines, along with the 1.5-liter diesel for entry RWD variants. Both 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes will continue, with RWD and 4WD options across the range. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
When Will It Launch
No official dates yet, but industry watchers are pointing to the second half of 2026. Given how frequently the Mahindra Thar facelift-spotted test mules have been popping up lately, a late-2026 reveal seems realistic.
Expect a slight price bump over the current model, given all the added tech.
The Thar has always been a statement vehicle. With these upgrades, it’s shaping up to be a smarter one too, without losing any of the character that made it popular in the first place.
