India’s sub-4-metre SUV segment is set for another major shake-up in 2027, with several manufacturers preparing new models for the highly competitive market. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Venue currently have strong positions in this space, but upcoming products from Renault, Kia, Mahindra and Tata are expected to bring fresh designs, new technology and more powertrain choices.
Here are four new compact SUVs that could become important rivals to the Brezza and Venue in 2027.
Renault Bridger
Renault is preparing a new compact SUV based on its India-focused Renault Global Modular Platform. Revealed as the Bridger concept, the production version is expected to feature a rugged and upright design aimed at buyers looking for a more distinctive alternative to conventional urban SUVs.
The Bridger is expected to be positioned below the Duster and could offer petrol, hybrid and potentially electric powertrain options. Renault is also developing the model with India in mind, which should help the company keep pricing competitive when it reaches the market.
New Kia Sonet
Kia is also expected to introduce a new-generation Sonet around this period. The Sonet has already established itself as a strong player in the compact SUV segment, and the next-generation model could bring a more modern exterior, upgraded cabin and additional technology.
While official details remain limited, Kia is expected to focus on improving the Sonet’s premium appeal while retaining its compact dimensions. More advanced connectivity and safety features could help the new model compete strongly against the Brezza, Venue and other upcoming SUVs.
Mahindra Vision S
Mahindra’s Vision S concept is another model that could enter the sub-4-metre SUV category. The concept previews a smaller SUV based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ platform and could eventually sit alongside the company’s existing compact SUV offerings.
The Vision S is expected to feature a bold design inspired by Mahindra’s latest electric SUV range. Its production version could offer modern technology and a strong road presence, giving Mahindra another option in one of India’s fastest-moving SUV categories.
Tata Nexon
Tata Motors is also expected to update the Nexon as competition in the segment becomes tougher. The Nexon has been one of the major players in India’s compact SUV market, and a future update could bring styling changes, improved interiors and additional features.
Tata could also continue expanding electrified powertrain options for the Nexon family. This would allow the company to address buyers looking for both conventional and electric compact SUVs.
Competition to Get Tougher
The arrival of these SUVs will make the compact SUV segment considerably more competitive. Buyers could have more choices in terms of design, features, engines and electrified powertrains.
The Brezza and Venue will continue to benefit from their established brand presence, but new-generation products could put pressure on them with fresher designs and newer technology. With Volkswagen also confirming a new sub-4-metre SUV for India in 2027, the segment is likely to become even more crowded.
For buyers planning to purchase a compact SUV in 2027, waiting could therefore be worthwhile. More details about pricing, engines and launch timelines are expected to emerge as these upcoming models move closer to production.
