Nissan is preparing to expand its SUV portfolio in India with a new three-row model that is expected to take on popular family SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Carens, and other seven-seater offerings. The new Nissan 7-seater SUV is expected to arrive in India in 2027 as part of the company’s broader product expansion strategy.
Nissan 7-Seater SUV Expected to Share Its Underpinnings
The upcoming SUV is expected to be based on Nissan’s version of the modular architecture used by its upcoming midsize SUV. Nissan has already confirmed plans for a seven-seat SUV, with the model expected to use a modified platform capable of accommodating a longer body and three rows of seats.
Reports suggest that the new SUV could be closely related to the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s larger three-row SUV projects. The Renault Bigster, which is based on the new Duster platform, measures around 4.6 metres and has been developed specifically to offer more cabin space and an additional row. A Nissan derivative of this larger SUV has also been reported for India.
161hp Turbo-Petrol Engine Expected
Powertrain details for the Nissan seven-seater have not been officially revealed yet. However, current reports indicate that the SUV could be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 161hp.
The engine is expected to be offered with both manual and dual-clutch automatic transmission options. Nissan’s existing midsize SUV programme is also centred around turbo-petrol technology, making this engine a likely choice for the larger three-row model.
There is no official confirmation about a hybrid or all-wheel-drive version at this stage. Nissan is likely to reveal more information closer to the launch.
Expected Features and Interior
The new Nissan SUV should focus heavily on cabin space, technology and family-friendly equipment. A seven-seat layout is expected to be standard, while a six-seat configuration with captain seats could also be offered.
Features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, connected-car technology and advanced safety systems could be part of the package.
Nissan could also give the SUV a distinctive design compared with its smaller models, helping it establish a stronger identity in the competitive three-row SUV segment.
Launch Timeline and Rivals
The Nissan 7-seater SUV is expected to launch in India in 2027. It will enter a competitive segment currently occupied by models such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Carens Clavis, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
With a turbo-petrol engine, three-row seating and Nissan’s new design direction, the upcoming SUV could become an important model for the brand. More details regarding its name, pricing, dimensions and features are expected to emerge closer to its India debut.
