CNG continues to remain an important alternative-fuel option for Indian car buyers, especially those looking for lower running costs without moving completely to an electric vehicle. CNG was the second-most popular fuel choice among Indian passenger vehicle buyers in FY2026, and manufacturers are continuing to explore new models with factory-fitted CNG technology.
While several upcoming CNG cars are still based on tentative information, four models are currently worth watching in the Indian market.
1. Tata Curvv CNG
Tata Motors could expand its CNG portfolio with the Curvv CNG. The SUV-coupe already has strong appeal because of its distinctive design and multiple powertrain options. A CNG version could make it an interesting choice for buyers wanting SUV styling along with better fuel economy.
According to current industry listings, the Curvv CNG could arrive around the end of 2026, with an expected price in the ₹11 lakh to ₹13 lakh range. It is also expected to offer a manual gearbox, while an AMT option is listed by some sources.
2. Kia Sonet CNG
The Kia Sonet is another compact SUV that could receive a CNG powertrain. If introduced, the Sonet CNG would give Kia a stronger presence in the growing CNG SUV market.
Current reports and industry listings suggest a possible launch towards the end of 2026. The expected price could start around ₹11 lakh, although Kia has not officially confirmed the launch, specifications or pricing.
3. Hyundai Alcazar CNG
Hyundai is gradually expanding its CNG strategy in India. The company currently offers CNG versions of models such as the Grand i10 Nios, Aura and Exter, while it has indicated plans to expand its CNG range further.
The Alcazar CNG could take this technology into a larger SUV segment. A factory-fitted CNG option would particularly appeal to buyers who drive long distances but still want the practicality of a three-row SUV. Current industry estimates put its potential price between ₹15 lakh and ₹20 lakh.
4. Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG
Maruti Suzuki remains one of the strongest supporters of CNG technology in India. The company is targeting around 900,000 CNG vehicle sales in FY2027, showing that it continues to see significant demand for the fuel.
The upcoming Baleno is also listed among the potential CNG launches, with a tentative September 2026 timeline and an estimated price range of ₹6 lakh to ₹9.5 lakh.
With rising fuel costs and increasing demand for economical cars, these upcoming CNG models could give buyers more choices across hatchback and SUV segments. However, launch dates, prices, and specifications should be considered tentative until the respective manufacturers make official announcements.
