Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2026 Baleno facelift in India with several important changes aimed at making the premium hatchback more competitive. While the exterior update is evolutionary, the biggest changes are under the skin and inside the cabin. The new Baleno gets a three-cylinder petrol engine, additional transmission choices, and Level 2 ADAS technology.
New 1.2-Litre Z-Series Engine
The biggest mechanical change is the introduction of a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated Z-Series petrol engine. It produces around 82 PS and 112 Nm of torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. An AMT automatic option is also available.
The new engine is designed with efficiency in mind, although the move from a four-cylinder unit to a three-cylinder setup could have an impact on refinement. The Baleno also continues with a CNG powertrain, while the facelift introduces a CNG-AMT combination, giving buyers more flexibility.
Mileage Remains a Major Highlight
Fuel efficiency continues to be one of the Baleno’s strongest selling points. The petrol manual version is reported to deliver around 22.35 kmpl, while the CNG version is expected to offer significantly higher running efficiency.
Actual mileage will naturally depend on traffic, driving style, and road conditions, so buyers should not treat claimed figures as real-world numbers.
Level 2 ADAS Is the Biggest Feature Addition
The 2026 Baleno facelift gets Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, making it one of the most feature-loaded premium hatchbacks in its class. The ADAS package includes functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and autonomous emergency braking.
Other safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera and tyre pressure monitoring system. These upgrades significantly strengthen the Baleno’s safety and technology package.
More Premium Features
Maruti has also upgraded the cabin with features such as ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a head-up display and other convenience features. The exterior receives a revised front fascia with updated headlights, grille and bumper, giving the hatchback a fresher appearance without changing its overall design substantially.
Price and Rivals
The 2026 Maruti Baleno facelift starts at around Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the applicable introductory pricing. It continues to compete with the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza.
Overall, the facelift is more than a cosmetic update. The new engine, CNG-AMT option, Level 2 ADAS and premium comfort features make the 2026 Maruti Baleno a considerably more advanced package than before.
