Skoda Auto is preparing to make a stronger push into India’s electric vehicle market, with the company considering multiple global EVs for the country. The Epiq, Peaq and Elroq are currently among the models in focus, although Skoda has not yet officially confirmed which electric cars will be launched in India. The company is expected to initially explore limited-volume imports before moving towards a more localized EV strategy.
Skoda Could Bring Global EVs to India
Skoda Auto India is looking at bringing electric vehicles from its international portfolio to India as the demand for EVs continues to increase. According to recent reports, the company plans to introduce global EVs in the near term, potentially through limited imports.
This approach would allow Skoda to establish an electric presence in India while it continues to work on a more affordable locally produced EV. The company has yet to reveal the exact launch timeline, specifications, or pricing for the India-spec models.
Skoda Epiq Could Be the Most Affordable Option
The Epiq is expected to play an important role in Skoda’s future EV strategy. It is a compact electric SUV positioned below the Elroq and Enyaq in the international lineup.
The Epiq has been designed as a practical urban-focused electric SUV and features Skoda’s latest Modern Solid design philosophy. Globally, the model is expected to offer a range of up to around 440 km, depending on the version.
For India, the Epiq could make the most sense as a volume-oriented EV if Skoda can achieve competitive pricing through localization. It could potentially compete with electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra BE 6.
Peaq to Target Premium EV Buyers
The Peaq will sit at the top of Skoda’s electric SUV range and is expected to be one of the brand’s largest and most premium models. The seven-seat electric SUV is based on the MEB platform and is positioned as a flagship product.
Internationally, the Peaq is expected to offer multiple battery and drivetrain configurations, with a claimed range reaching around 647 km in its highest-range version. Skoda is already evaluating the model for the Indian market.
If brought to India, the Peaq would target buyers looking for a premium three-row electric SUV with strong range, advanced technology and spacious interiors.
Elroq Could Be Another Key Model
The Elroq is another important EV under consideration for India. It is a compact electric SUV that sits between the smaller Epiq and larger models in Skoda’s international EV portfolio.
The Elroq is already sold in international markets and uses the Volkswagen Group’s MEB architecture. Depending on the version, the global model offers different battery and powertrain options, making it suitable for both efficiency-focused and performance-oriented buyers.
For India, the Elroq could occupy a premium position and potentially compete with larger electric SUVs. However, its final positioning and pricing will depend heavily on whether Skoda imports the model or eventually localises production.
Local Production Will Be Important
While imported EVs could help Skoda enter the market quickly, long-term success is likely to depend on localization. India’s EV market is becoming increasingly competitive, and pricing will remain a major factor for customers.
Skoda’s strategy therefore appears to involve bringing selected global EVs first while working towards a locally produced, higher-volume electric model. The company has also indicated that a stronger local strategy will be important for its future EV plans.
For now, the Epiq, Peaq and Elroq remain the key names to watch. Skoda is yet to confirm the exact India lineup, launch dates or prices, but the company’s upcoming EV strategy could significantly expand its presence in India’s rapidly growing electric car market.
