Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has announced a fresh price hike across its car and SUV range in India. The company will increase prices by up to Rs 25,000, with the revised prices coming into effect from September 1, 2026. The increase will apply to both petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles, as well as Tata’s electric vehicle lineup.
The announcement comes at a time when several major carmakers are revising vehicle prices in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki has already increased prices across its range, while Hyundai Motor India has also announced a hike of up to 1 percent from September. Tata Motors is therefore the latest major manufacturer to pass on a part of the rising cost burden to customers.
Tata Cars to Become More Expensive From September
According to Tata Motors, the price increase will vary by model and variant. While the maximum hike has been set at Rs 25,000, the company has not yet disclosed the exact increase for every individual vehicle and variant.
Tata Motors currently has a wide passenger vehicle portfolio in India, including the Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Altroz, Nexon, Curvv, Sierra, Harrier and Safari. Several of these models are also available with electric powertrains, making the upcoming revision relevant for buyers across different segments.
For customers planning to purchase a Tata car before the festive season, the September 1 deadline could be important. Buyers who complete their purchase before the revised prices take effect may potentially avoid the new price increase, although actual benefits will depend on dealer stock, billing and applicable offers.
Rising Input Costs Behind the Hike
Tata Motors has attributed the price revision to sustained inflationary pressure and rising input costs. Automakers have been facing higher expenses across different areas of production and supply chains, making periodic price adjustments increasingly common in the Indian passenger vehicle market.
The company has indicated that it continues to absorb a significant portion of the cost increase but will pass on part of the impact to customers through the latest price revision.
This is not Tata Motors’ first price increase this year. The latest revision marks the third price hike announced by the company’s passenger vehicle business in 2026, highlighting the continuing pressure on automobile manufacturers.
Tata Joins Maruti and Hyundai
The latest move also reflects a broader trend across the Indian automobile industry. Maruti Suzuki recently increased prices by varying amounts across its Arena and Nexa models, while Hyundai announced a price increase of up to 1 percent from September.
With Tata, Maruti and Hyundai all announcing price revisions around the same period, buyers could face higher vehicle acquisition costs during the upcoming festive season. The actual impact, however, will depend on the model, variant and the size of the individual price increase.
For now, Tata Motors has confirmed that the revised prices will be applicable from September 1, 2026. More details about model-wise price changes are expected to become available closer to the effective date.
