BMW is preparing to take its M performance division into a new era with the upcoming i3 M, an all-electric sports sedan expected to deliver around 700bhp. While the standard BMW i3 sedan will target premium EV buyers, the M version is being developed as a high-performance electric car with technology inspired by motorsport. The biggest highlight is its advanced four-motor electric powertrain, which could make it one of the most capable performance EVs in BMW’s lineup.
The new BMW i3 M will be based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, a next-generation architecture designed specifically for electric vehicles. Unlike current EV platforms, Neue Klasse promises better efficiency, lighter construction, and improved battery technology. BMW has confirmed that this platform will support high-performance M models, allowing engineers to push the limits of electric driving without compromising everyday usability.

Spy information and concept previews indicate a muscular stance with wider wheel arches, aggressive bumpers, larger alloy wheels, and aerodynamic enhancements. Inside, buyers can expect a driver-focused cabin with BMW’s latest panoramic digital display, a next-generation infotainment system, sporty M seats, and premium sustainable materials.
Battery technology will also receive a major upgrade. BMW’s next-generation cylindrical battery cells are expected to improve energy density, allowing for longer driving range and faster charging compared to current models. The i3 M could offer a real-world driving range of over 500 km on a single charge while supporting ultra-fast DC charging for shorter charging stops during long journeys.

BMW has not announced an official launch date for the i3 M, but the model is expected to arrive after the standard Neue Klasse i3 sedan enters production. As the brand expands its electric performance portfolio, the i3 M is likely to become a benchmark for future M cars, combining traditional driving excitement with the advantages of advanced EV technology.
