Hyundai Bayon and Renault Duster Hybrid Launching This Diwali

India’s midsize and compact SUV market is heading into an exciting festive season, with Hyundai and Renault preparing important new additions. The Hyundai Bayon-based SUV and Renault Duster Hybrid are expected to arrive around the Diwali 2026 period, giving buyers two fresh options with different approaches to the growing SUV segment.

Hyundai Bayon-Based SUV Expected Around Festive Season

Hyundai has confirmed plans to introduce an all-new SUV in India during the current financial year, and the upcoming model is expected to be based on the Bayon family. Recent reports suggest that Hyundai is targeting the festive season for its arrival.

The India-spec SUV is expected to sit between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s lineup. Test vehicles have already been spotted on Indian roads, revealing details such as a modern dashboard layout, dual-screen displays and a 360-degree camera. A CNG powertrain is also reportedly being considered, which could make the SUV attractive to buyers looking for lower running costs.

The new Hyundai SUV will face competition from models such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos and other upcoming products in the segment. Hyundai is likely to focus strongly on technology, practicality and feature-loaded variants to differentiate the model.

Renault Duster Hybrid to Bring Strong-Hybrid Technology

Renault is preparing another major update for the Indian Duster lineup with the introduction of a strong-hybrid powertrain. Renault’s official India website confirms that the Duster will get a 1.8-litre petrol strong-hybrid setup with a 1.4kWh battery, designed to operate in electric mode for a significant portion of everyday driving. The hybrid version is scheduled for Diwali 2026.

The hybrid system is expected to combine a petrol engine with electric assistance and could deliver strong fuel-efficiency figures, making it particularly appealing for urban users. Reports suggest that the system could produce around 160hp, although final India-spec specifications and efficiency figures will need to be confirmed by Renault.

The Duster already returned to India earlier in 2026 with a new-generation design and modern equipment. Adding a strong-hybrid version will allow Renault to compete more directly with other electrified SUVs while retaining the Duster’s familiar rugged character.

Two Different SUV Strategies

The Hyundai Bayon-based SUV and Renault Duster Hybrid are likely to target slightly different buyers. Hyundai’s upcoming model will focus on the compact-to-midsize SUV space, while the Duster Hybrid will appeal to customers wanting more space and improved fuel efficiency.

With both models expected around the Diwali period, the 2026 festive season could become an important point in India’s SUV market. More details on prices, variants, and exact launch dates are expected closer to their respective introductions.
