Hyundai’s upcoming sub-4-metre electric SUV has been spotted again in India, this time at a charging station in Vijayawada. The latest sighting provides fresh clues about the electric SUV’s development, charging tests and exterior design. The model is expected to be positioned below the Creta Electric and will strengthen Hyundai’s presence in the more affordable electric SUV segment.
The upcoming EV is currently known by its reported codename HE1i. Hyundai has already confirmed plans to introduce a new mass-market electric SUV in India during the current financial year, although the company has not yet revealed its production name. The SUV is being developed with a strong focus on localisation and is expected to be manufactured at Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur facility in Tamil Nadu.
Spotted at a 120kW Charging Station
The latest prototype was photographed at a charging station equipped with a 120kW DC charger. Reports suggest that Hyundai personnel were enquiring about the availability of a 120kW charging connector during the testing activity.
However, this does not confirm that the upcoming Hyundai EV will support 120kW peak charging. The charger’s output rating and the vehicle’s maximum charging capability are two different things. Hyundai has not yet announced the EV’s official DC charging speed or charging time.
The prototype also featured protective rubber flaps around the AC and DC charging ports. These are designed to help protect the charging connections from water and other external elements.
New Headlight Details Spotted
The latest test vehicle continues to wear heavy camouflage, but some lighting elements are visible underneath the covering. Interestingly, different prototypes have been spotted with different headlight arrangements. This could indicate variant-specific lighting designs or ongoing development changes.
Previous sightings have shown the SUV with a boxy and upright profile, which should help maximise cabin space while keeping the overall dimensions within the sub-4-metre category.
Features and Powertrain Expectations
The Hyundai sub-4m EV is expected to introduce several new technologies for the brand’s compact EV lineup. Earlier test vehicles have been spotted with equipment associated with Level 2 ADAS and Hyundai’s upcoming Pleos Connect infotainment system. A large 17-inch centre display has also been reported.
Hyundai has not officially confirmed battery capacity or range. Earlier reports have suggested multiple battery options, with estimates ranging around the 42kWh to 51kWh mark, but these figures should be treated as expectations until Hyundai releases final specifications.
Expected Launch
Hyundai is preparing this electric SUV for the Indian market as part of its broader EV expansion strategy. The company has confirmed a mass-market electric SUV launch within the current financial year, while reports point towards an introduction by the end of 2026 or around early 2027.
Once launched, the model is expected to compete in India’s growing compact electric SUV space, where buyers increasingly want practical dimensions, modern technology, and usable charging capability. More details about its name, battery, range, pricing, and charging performance are likely to emerge closer to the official debut.
