Kia India has introduced a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty for the Carens Clavis EV, giving private buyers additional long-term protection against battery capacity-related concerns. The updated warranty covers the high-voltage battery for 15 years with unlimited kilometres for the first private owner, subject to Kia’s warranty conditions.
The new policy applies to Carens Clavis EVs retailed from August 1, 2026 onwards. Kia is using the term “lifetime” for the battery warranty, but the actual coverage period is defined as 15 years from the date of vehicle delivery. There is also no kilometre limit during this period for the eligible first owner.
Battery Capacity Coverage Explained
The warranty specifically covers the high-voltage battery when its capacity falls below 70% of its original capacity. This is important because battery degradation is one of the major long-term ownership considerations for electric vehicles. Kia’s policy protects this level of capacity loss during the applicable warranty period.
However, the lifetime battery warranty is linked to the first private owner. If the vehicle is sold, the second owner receives battery capacity coverage for eight years or 1,60,000 km, whichever comes first. Commercial and fleet vehicles also remain covered under the eight-year or 1,60,000-km limit.
Existing Carens Clavis EV Owners Can Upgrade
Kia has also included existing customers in the updated warranty programme. Eligible owners who purchased their Carens Clavis EV before August 1, 2026 can upgrade the standard battery warranty to 15 years of unlimited-kilometre coverage.
The upgrade requires a one-time administrative fee of Rs 3,400, along with a vehicle evaluation and compliance with the applicable terms and conditions.
The Carens Clavis EV was originally introduced with an eight-year or 1,60,000-km high-voltage battery warranty. Kia’s latest announcement therefore significantly extends the protection available to its first private owners.
For buyers considering an EV for long-term ownership, the extended battery coverage could provide greater clarity around one of the vehicle’s most expensive components. Kia is also expanding its EV ownership support through EV-ready workshops, charging services and other after-sales programmes.
Overall, the new warranty gives the Carens Clavis EV substantially longer battery protection, but buyers should carefully check ownership and warranty conditions before deciding.
