Sub-4-Meter Mahindra Scorpio: Interior and Design Details

Mahindra is preparing a new sub-4 metre SUV based on the Vision S concept, and the upcoming model could become the smallest member of the Scorpio family. The SUV has been spotted testing in India, giving enthusiasts a clearer look at its production-ready design and cabin. While Mahindra has not officially confirmed the Scorpio name for this model, recent reports suggest that it will carry Scorpio family design elements.

Rugged Design Inspired by the Vision S

The upcoming compact SUV is expected to retain the tall and boxy proportions showcased by the Vision S concept. Recent test vehicles indicate that Mahindra is aiming to give the SUV a strong road presence despite its sub-4 metre dimensions.

At the rear, the SUV is expected to feature vertically positioned LED tail lamps and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, giving it a familiar Scorpio-inspired appearance. The test vehicles have also revealed squared-off wheel arches, upright pillars and a relatively upright rear section. Some of the concept-specific accessories, such as roof-mounted lights and a ladder, are unlikely to be part of the standard production model.

The production SUV will be based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ monocoque architecture. Unlike the body-on-frame Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic, this platform is designed to support multiple vehicle sizes and powertrain options.

Modern Interior With Dual Screens

The biggest change compared with Mahindra’s existing compact SUVs could be inside the cabin. Recent spy images reportedly provide the first look at the production-spec interior, showing a modern dashboard with two separate digital displays.

The setup is expected to include a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment screen, with reports suggesting screens around 10.25 inches. The dashboard also features vertically positioned air vents and physical controls, creating a combination of modern technology and conventional usability.

The equipment list could include wireless smartphone charging, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, drive modes, a panoramic sunroof, and a multifunction steering wheel. Higher variants are also expected to get features such as powered and ventilated front seats and advanced driver-assistance systems, although Mahindra has not confirmed the final specifications.

Expected Engines and Launch Timeline

The Vision S-based SUV is expected to use petrol and diesel powertrains, with reports pointing towards 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The NU_IQ architecture can also accommodate hybrid and electric powertrains, potentially allowing Mahindra to expand the model’s powertrain lineup later.

The production version is expected to arrive in India around 2027. If launched under the Scorpio family, it would give Mahindra a new compact SUV with a distinctly rugged identity while competing in the highly competitive sub-4 metre segment.

The final name, specifications, pricing, and launch date are still awaited from Mahindra.
