Tata Motors is preparing a major update for its compact sedan, and the facelifted Tigor could reportedly return with a new name. Recent reports suggest that the upcoming model may be called the Tata Aeris and could replace the Tigor in the company’s lineup. The new sedan is expected to be unveiled or launched around September 25, ahead of the festive season.
Tata Aeris Name Reportedly Confirmed by Trademark Filing
The possibility of the Aeris name comes after a Tata Aeris trademark filing surfaced for motor vehicles and related parts. However, Tata Motors has not officially confirmed that the Tigor replacement will carry this name. Reports from multiple automotive publications now point towards Aeris becoming the new identity for the compact sedan.
If launched as the Aeris, the new sedan would effectively replace the Tigor rather than simply being sold as a conventional facelift. This would also allow Tata to introduce a refreshed identity for its sub-4-metre sedan range.
New Exterior Design Inspired by the Tiago
Patent images and recent reports indicate substantial styling changes. The front-end is expected to feature a slimmer grille, redesigned bumper, sharper headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The overall silhouette is likely to retain the Tigor’s distinctive notchback-style profile, while new alloy wheels could give it a more contemporary appearance.
At the rear, the major changes are expected to include redesigned tail lamps, a revised tailgate and a new bumper with vertical reflectors. A connected lighting treatment has also been reported, along with prominent Aeris badging.
Updated Cabin and More Features
The cabin is also expected to receive a significant refresh. Reports suggest that the Aeris could borrow several dashboard elements from the recently updated Tiago. A larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, automatic climate control and wireless charging are among the expected features.
Six airbags could also become standard, while higher variants may receive additional convenience features such as ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera.
Petrol and CNG Powertrains Expected
The Tata Aeris is expected to retain the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. In petrol form, the engine is reported to produce around 86 PS and 113 Nm, while the CNG version could deliver 76 PS and 97 Nm. Five-speed manual and AMT gearbox options are expected.
An electric version, potentially called Aeris. ev, has also been discussed in reports, although there is no official confirmation regarding its launch timeline.
With the September 25 launch date being widely reported, more details about the Tata Aeris, including its official name, variants and pricing, should become clearer soon. The new sedan will continue to operate in the sub-4-metre segment alongside models such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.
