Nissan has started testing a new three-row SUV on Indian roads, expanding its recently launched Tekton SUV family. The upcoming model has been spotted in heavily camouflaged form and is expected to become Nissan’s second seven-seat SUV for the Indian market. The new SUV is scheduled to arrive in 2027 and will target the growing three-row SUV segment.
Longer Body and Distinctive Rear Design
Although the test vehicle remains heavily covered, the spy images reveal several important design details. The upcoming three-row SUV will share its basic design identity with the five-seat Tekton, including the inverted-L-shaped LED daytime running lights and headlamp arrangement.
However, the body will be noticeably longer to accommodate the additional seating row. The extended rear overhang and larger rear quarter section are among the key differences visible on the test mule.
At the rear, Nissan appears to be giving the seven-seater a distinct identity. Unlike the Tekton’s C-shaped tail-lamp design, the new SUV is expected to feature a different LED lighting signature, along with a connecting light bar. The number plate position is also expected to move lower onto the bumper.
Three-Row Cabin Expected
The upcoming Nissan SUV will feature three rows of seats and is expected to follow a 5+2 seating configuration. Nissan has not yet revealed the complete interior, but the cabin could borrow several technologies and comfort features from the Tekton.
The existing Tekton offers equipment such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, dual-screen displays and automatic climate control. Some of these features could make their way into the larger SUV, although Nissan is yet to confirm the final equipment list.
Turbo-Petrol Engines Likely
Powertrain details have not been officially announced for the three-row model. However, reports indicate that Nissan could use the Tekton’s 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, while the smaller 1.0-litre unit may not be offered.
The 1.3-litre turbo engine in the Tekton produces up to 163PS and 280Nm and is available with manual and six-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmissions. Nissan has also ruled out a hybrid powertrain for the current Tekton, making a hybrid option unlikely for its three-row derivative.
Expected Launch and Rivals
Nissan is expected to launch the three-row SUV in India during 2027. Once introduced, it could compete with established models such as the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO and Hyundai Alcazar. The new SUV will play an important role in Nissan’s broader product expansion strategy as the company strengthens its presence in India’s competitive SUV market.
With testing now underway, more details about the SUV’s final design, dimensions, features and powertrain are likely to emerge closer to its launch.
