Renault is preparing to expand the Duster range in India with a strong-hybrid powertrain, and the company is set to reveal its price on October 17, 2026. The Duster Hybrid will become the third powertrain option for Renault’s midsize SUV, joining the existing turbo-petrol engines.
The upcoming hybrid version is particularly important for Renault as the new-generation Duster does not offer a diesel engine in India. Instead, the company is using its E-Tech strong-hybrid technology to target buyers looking for better fuel efficiency without moving to a fully electric vehicle.
Renault Duster Hybrid Powertrain Details
The Duster Hybrid will use Renault’s E-Tech system based around a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. It is paired with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery pack. Reported system output is around 160hp, while the hybrid setup is designed to allow the SUV to operate in electric mode under suitable driving conditions.
Renault says the E-Tech system can deliver electric driving for up to 80% of city driving, although the actual percentage will depend on traffic, driving style and road conditions. The company has yet to announce the final ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figure, which will be one of the most important details for buyers.
The hybrid powertrain will also use an automatic transmission, making it different from the manual and DCT turbo-petrol options currently available with the Duster.
Price Expected to Be Higher Than Petrol Models
Renault currently sells the Duster in India with prices starting at ₹10.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The hybrid variant is expected to be positioned higher in the range because of its additional electric motors, battery, and hybrid transmission. However, Renault has not announced the official price or variant-wise details yet.
The final pricing will be revealed on October 17, giving buyers a clearer idea of how the Duster Hybrid compares with other strong-hybrid midsize SUVs.
Rivals and What Buyers Can Expect
Once launched, the Duster Hybrid will enter a segment that already includes strong-hybrid versions of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Its 1.8-litre petrol engine and two-motor E-Tech setup will give the Renault a distinct technical configuration in this space.
Renault has already confirmed that deliveries of the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 will begin around the Diwali period.
For buyers, the most significant announcements on October 17 will be the exact price, available variants, official fuel-efficiency figure, features, and warranty coverage. These details will determine how the new Duster Hybrid fits into the increasingly competitive midsize SUV market.
