Toyota is preparing a major update for the Innova Hycross, and the upcoming facelift has now moved closer to production with a newly surfaced design patent. The patent, combined with recent spy shots, gives a strong indication of what the 2027 Toyota Innova Hycross facelift could look like when it arrives in India.
The Innova Hycross was introduced in India in late 2022 and has established itself as one of the most popular premium MPVs in the country. For the facelift, Toyota appears to be focusing heavily on the front-end styling while retaining the model’s familiar overall proportions and mechanical package.
More SUV-Like Front Design
The biggest change is expected at the front. The newly revealed patent design shows a much more upright and angular bumper compared with the current model. The design appears to take inspiration from Toyota’s latest Hilux styling, giving the MPV a more rugged and SUV-like appearance.
The grille is expected to become squarer, with diamond-shaped elements and a more prominent design. The bumper also features new black sections on either side, which could house fog lamps or additional lighting elements. The latest test vehicles have also hinted at slimmer headlamps with revised projector units.
A new render based on the patent design provides a clearer idea of how these changes could come together on the production model. The facelifted Hycross could therefore look considerably more aggressive than the current version without changing its basic MPV identity.
Revised Rear and Exterior Details
While most of the attention is currently focused on the front, Toyota is also expected to make smaller changes at the rear. Spy shots have indicated revised LED elements inside the existing tail-lamp shape, along with possible updates to the rear bumper.
The side profile is likely to remain largely unchanged because this is a mid-cycle facelift rather than a completely new generation. Toyota could, however, introduce new alloy wheel designs and additional exterior colour options to give the updated MPV a fresher appearance.
Interior Could Get More Technology
The interior of the facelifted Innova Hycross has not been fully revealed yet, but some changes are expected. Recent test mule sightings have suggested that the overall dashboard layout may remain familiar, while Toyota could introduce new upholstery, trim finishes and additional equipment.
There is also speculation that the facelift could receive a larger infotainment display and upgraded digital screens. Improved camera hardware and additional convenience features could also be added, helping the Hycross remain competitive in the premium MPV segment.
Existing Petrol and Hybrid Engines Likely to Continue
Toyota is not expected to make major mechanical changes. The facelift should continue with the existing 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a CVT, while the strong-hybrid version is expected to retain its 2.0-litre petrol-electric setup with an e-CVT transmission.
This approach makes sense for Toyota, as the Hycross hybrid has become a key part of the company’s premium MPV strategy. Keeping the existing powertrains would also allow Toyota to concentrate on styling, technology and equipment upgrades rather than undertaking expensive mechanical changes.
Expected Launch in 2027
Toyota has not officially announced the launch date or specifications of the facelifted Innova Hycross. However, the ongoing road testing and appearance of the design patent suggest that development is well advanced. The updated MPV is currently expected to make its India debut in early 2027.
With a sharper Hilux-inspired face, revised lighting, possible cabin upgrades and the continuation of its petrol and hybrid powertrains, the Innova Hycross facelift could give Toyota’s popular MPV a stronger and more modern identity without moving away from the formula that has made it successful.
