Chinese carmaker Chery is quietly building momentum in the Indian market, and its latest move has SUV enthusiasts talking. The company has filed a design patent for the next-generation Tiggo 8 with Indian authorities, signalling that its flagship three-row SUV could be on the radar for an eventual India launch. While a patent filing is not confirmation of a launch, it’s a meaningful step that carmakers typically take when they’re seriously evaluating a market.
A Fresh Design Language
The patented images reveal a Tiggo 8 that looks noticeably different from the version currently sold overseas. The front fascia has been reworked with a large hexagonal grille flanked by two horizontal chrome bars running into the LED daytime running lights, giving the SUV a bolder, more premium face. The headlamp cluster still carries hints of the outgoing model, but the overall bumper and grille layout feels distinctly more modern. One of the standout details in the filing is a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, suggesting Chery may be positioning this generation with more advanced driver-assistance capability than before.

Internationally, the Tiggo 8 is one of Chery’s best-selling nameplates and is offered in Pro plus variants across five, six, and seven-seat configurations.
