Kia India is gearing up for one of its biggest launches of 2026, and fresh details around the upcoming Sorento are finally coming into focus. The three-row SUV, which will mark Kia’s entry into the strong-hybrid space in India, is now confirmed to arrive with not one but two engine choices right from day one.
Hybrid and Diesel, Side by Side
While Kia had already teased a hybrid powertrain as a first for its India lineup, the bigger reveal is that the Sorento will also be offered with a diesel engine at launch. This dual-powertrain approach gives Kia a way to appeal to two very different buyer mindsets: those chasing efficiency and refinement through hybrid tech, and traditionalists who still lean on diesel for long-distance comfort and lower running costs on higher mileage.
Going by the global-spec Sorento, the hybrid setup is expected to pair a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor and a small lithium-ion battery, together producing a combined output in the region of 227bhp and 350Nm of torque, sent through a six-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel motor, meanwhile, is rumoured to be a 2.2-litre unit, though Kia hasn’t put out official numbers yet.
Booking Already Open
Interested buyers don’t have to wait for the official launch to stake a claim. Kia dealerships and the brand’s official website are already accepting bookings for either engine variant, with a token amount of Rs 25,000 required to reserve a unit. That’s a strong signal that Kia is confident about demand and wants to build momentum well before the Sorento actually rolls into showrooms, expected around the festive season this year.
What the SUV Will Look Like
The teaser images doing the rounds show off a fairly aggressive design update over the outgoing model. Up front, there’s a two-tier LED daytime running light setup along with square LED fog lamps tucked into the air dam, plus sleek, elongated turn indicators. Around the sides and rear, expect large blacked-out alloy wheels, gloss-black treatment on the ORVMs and pillars, body-coloured door handles, U-shaped LED taillights, a shark-fin antenna, and a neatly integrated number plate recess on the tailgate.
Inside, reports suggest the India-spec Sorento will get a four-spoke steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and Level 2 ADAS, putting it firmly in line with what buyers now expect from a premium three-row SUV in this segment.
