Kia New Midsize SUV to Rival Victoris and Bayon

Kia is reportedly preparing to expand its SUV portfolio in India with a new midsize SUV that could take on models such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and upcoming Hyundai Bayon. The new model is part of Kia’s broader product strategy for the Indian market and is expected to strengthen the brand’s presence in one of the country’s fastest-growing SUV segments.

According to a recent report, Kia is evaluating two new SUVs for India. One of them is a B-segment midsize SUV that is expected to be positioned between the Kia Syros and Seltos in the company’s lineup. The second model is expected to be a larger C-segment SUV with three-row seating, positioned between the Seltos and Sorento.

The new midsize SUV is reportedly targeted for launch around 2028-29, although Kia has not officially revealed its name, specifications or launch timeline. This means the company still has considerable time to finalise the model for the Indian market.

Kia Targets a Growing SUV Segment

The midsize SUV category has become increasingly competitive in India, with buyers looking for a combination of premium features, strong road presence, spacious interiors and multiple powertrain choices. The arrival of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and upcoming Hyundai Bayon is expected to make this segment even more competitive.

The upcoming Hyundai Bayon is expected to measure around 4.2 metres and sit between the Venue and next-generation Creta. It is also expected to offer petrol and CNG powertrain options, making it a direct competitor to models in this space.

Kia’s new SUV could therefore be designed to offer a more premium alternative, potentially benefiting from the brand’s strong focus on connected technology, feature-rich interiors and modern styling.

What Could Kia’s New SUV Offer?

Kia has not revealed technical details yet, so the engine and feature specifications remain unknown. However, considering the competition, the upcoming SUV could be offered with petrol and possibly electrified powertrain options.

The company is already expanding its focus on hybrid technology, with the Seltos expected to receive a hybrid powertrain in India. Kia is also preparing other SUV launches, including the Sorento hybrid.

More details about Kia’s new midsize SUV are expected to emerge closer to its development and testing phase. If launched as planned, the model could give Kia a stronger presence below the Seltos while offering another choice to buyers looking for a premium midsize SUV.

For now, the SUV remains under evaluation, and Kia is yet to officially confirm its name, design, powertrain, or exact launch date.
