The MG Hector Tomahawk EV marks an important step for JSW MG Motor India as the brand expands its electric vehicle portfolio. Positioned as a large family SUV, the Tomahawk EV combines a spacious cabin, a long equipment list, and a claimed 517 km MIDC range. We drove the electric SUV to see how it performs on Indian roads and what buyers can expect.
Exterior and Interior
The Tomahawk EV has a large road presence, measuring 4,745mm in length with a 2,810mm wheelbase. Its design features a closed-off front, LED lighting, connected tail lamps, flush-style door handles and large alloy wheels. However, the overall styling is relatively understated compared with some newer electric SUVs.
Inside, space is one of its biggest strengths. The cabin offers a premium feel, generous passenger room and a long list of technology features. MG offers a large 15.6-inch infotainment display, connected-car functions, a panoramic-style glass roof and Level 2 ADAS on the top-spec version. The SUV is available in both five- and seven-seat configurations.
Performance and Driving Experience
Power comes from a 69.2kWh LFP battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 201bhp and 310Nm. MG claims a 0- 100 km/h time of 8.2 seconds. In Standard mode, acceleration feels smooth and progressive, making the Tomahawk easy to drive in everyday traffic. Sport mode sharpens the response considerably, although hard acceleration can introduce some torque steer through the front wheels.
The light steering makes manoeuvring the large SUV easier in crowded city streets, but it offers little feedback at higher speeds. Ride comfort is generally acceptable on smoother roads, while some reviews noted suspension noise and less controlled behaviour over larger bumps and broken surfaces.
Range and Charging
MG claims a 517 km MIDC range from the 69.2kWh battery. The SUV supports up to 90kW DC fast charging, with MG claiming a 30–80 percent charge in around 35 minutes. Independent first-drive testing suggests real-world range can vary substantially depending on driving conditions, speed and battery condition, so the MIDC figure should not be treated as an everyday range guarantee.
What Stands Out
The Hector Tomahawk EV’s strongest qualities are its spacious interior, quiet cabin, extensive equipment and family-friendly practicality. Its relatively relaxed power delivery also suits buyers looking for a comfortable electric SUV rather than an outright performance-focused model.
Some areas could improve, particularly suspension calibration, steering feedback and the consistency of regenerative braking. Still, the Tomahawk EV brings together the features and space expected from a modern large SUV while adding the benefits of electric driving.
For Indian families looking for a spacious EV with strong technology and a claimed long driving range, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV presents a practical new option in the growing electric SUV market.
