Top 5 Sub-4-Metre SUVs Launching in 2027 in India

The sub-4-metre SUV segment is set for another major shake-up in India in 2027. With buyers increasingly looking for compact SUVs with strong road presence, modern features and efficient powertrains, several manufacturers are preparing new-generation and all-new models for the market. From the Renault Bridger to Volkswagen’s upcoming compact SUV, here are five models that could make a strong impact.

1. Renault Bridger

The Renault Bridger is among the most anticipated new SUVs for 2027. Previewed through a concept, the production version is expected to sit below the Duster and bring a more rugged design to Renault’s compact SUV range. The model is being developed for India and is expected to use Renault’s RGMP architecture.

Renault has indicated that the Bridger will follow a multi-energy approach, with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrain possibilities. Its production version is expected to arrive in India in 2027 and could compete with the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

2. Mahindra Vision S

Mahindra is also preparing a new compact SUV based on the Vision S concept. The production model is expected to enter the sub-4-metre category and could give Mahindra a fresh rival against established players.

The Vision S is expected to focus on a rugged SUV design, modern cabin technology and strong road presence. Its arrival could further strengthen Mahindra’s position in the fast-growing compact SUV market.

3. Volkswagen Compact SUV

Volkswagen has officially confirmed plans for a new sub-4-metre SUV for India in 2027. The model will be locally manufactured and is expected to be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kylaq.

The new Volkswagen SUV is expected to bring the brand’s familiar driving dynamics, solid build quality and premium cabin appeal to a more affordable segment. It will also help Volkswagen target a much wider customer base in India.

4. Next-Generation Tata Nexon

Tata Motors is expected to introduce the next-generation Nexon as part of its future product strategy. The Nexon has already become one of the most recognised names in India’s sub-4-metre SUV segment, and the next generation could bring major changes in styling, technology and powertrain options.

With Tata expanding its electric vehicle portfolio, an updated Nexon EV could also remain an important part of the lineup.

5. Next-Generation Kia Sonet

The Kia Sonet is another popular model expected to receive a major update around 2027. The next-generation version could feature refreshed styling, improved interiors and additional technology while continuing to compete in the highly competitive sub-4-metre SUV space.

With several established and new players entering the segment, 2027 could become one of the most important years for compact SUVs in India. Renault, Mahindra and Volkswagen are preparing new challengers, while existing names such as the Nexon and Sonet are expected to evolve further. For buyers, this could mean more choices, better technology and greater competition on pricing.
