Upcoming 7-Seater Hybrid SUVs in India: New Models to Watch

The Indian 7-seater car market is set for a major shift as automakers prepare to introduce more hybrid-powered SUVs and MPVs. With rising fuel costs and growing demand for better efficiency, hybrid technology is becoming increasingly attractive to large-family car buyers. Several new models from Kia, Hyundai, Renault, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are expected to strengthen this segment over the next few years.

Kia Carnival Hybrid

Kia is preparing a hybrid version of the Carnival premium MPV for India. The upcoming model is expected to use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor and automatic transmission. It could be positioned as a more efficient alternative to the existing diesel-powered Carnival.

The Carnival Hybrid is expected to focus heavily on premium cabin comfort, with features such as captain seats, advanced driver assistance systems and a spacious three-row layout. The model is reportedly expected around Diwali 2026.

Hyundai’s New 7-Seater Hybrid SUV

Hyundai is also developing a new three-row SUV, internally referred to as Ni1i. The model is expected to sit above the Creta and compete with vehicles such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari.

Reports suggest that Hyundai could offer the SUV with a strong-hybrid powertrain, along with premium features and Level 2 ADAS. The launch is expected around 2027, although Hyundai has yet to reveal complete specifications.

Renault Bigster

Renault’s upcoming three-row SUV, expected to be based on the Bigster/Boreal family, is another important model to watch. It is expected to share a hybrid powertrain with the upcoming Duster-based lineup.

The SUV could feature a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid setup, three-row seating and a spacious cabin. It is likely to target buyers looking for an efficient alternative to conventional seven-seater SUVs.

Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder 7-Seaters

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are also expected to expand their successful hybrid SUV partnership with three-row versions of the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Both models could use a 1.5-litre hybrid system derived from the existing technology. If launched, they could appeal strongly to buyers who want seven seats without moving into the premium SUV segment.

Hyundai Palisade Hybrid

At the premium end, Hyundai is expected to bring the Palisade to India with a hybrid powertrain. The three-row SUV is expected to feature a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol hybrid setup and a technology-rich cabin.

With more hybrid choices entering the market, buyers looking for a spacious family vehicle will soon have significantly more options across different price segments. The upcoming models could make hybrid powertrains a much more common choice among India’s large-family car buyers.
